If you where to buy a French Laptop you could change the language of the operating system once it starts up. Or you could buy Windows 7 and install it over the french OS and change the keyboard config to French (if it dosent auto detect it.)

We are going to France and London, what kind of adapters do we need for our laptop?

We are going to France and London, what kind of adapters do we need for our laptop?

Other - France - 4 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
don't need an adaptor, most laptops have 110-250v range , all you need is the right plug - see link below -- you can buy universal plugs for all countries at target or online http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_c_1_10?url=search-alias%3Delectronics&field-keywords=power+plug&sprefix=power+plug#/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Delectronics&field-keywords=universal+power+plug&rh=n%3A172282%2Ck%3Auniversal+power+plug
Answer 2 :
basically, most international hotels have known about this problem. so they might rent you appropriate adapters you need.
Answer 3 :
Modern laptops can run on both the US 110-120 V and the European 220-240 V. You can check this on the back of the computer or on the power plug. What you need is an plug adapter so that your US prongs can go in the three square holes of the wall sockets in London and the two round holes of the wall sockets in France. http://www.adaptelec.com/images/plugs_outlets/wa7-socketfit.jpg Instead of buying two adapters you can buy universal adapters which have all the necessary plugs to travel all around the world. They usually look like this http://www.asia.ru/upload_images/100/99097/1810632.2+jpg
Answer 4 :
Just take me with you and it won't be a problem!!

Will RUSSIAN DVDs play on a laptop I bought in FRANCE ?

Will RUSSIAN DVDs play on a laptop I bought in FRANCE ?
If yes, why you never find RUSSIAN subtitles on DVDs ?
Laptops & Notebooks - 5 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
I would think so!! The computer already has the russian language in it!! Try and see.....Let us know!!
Answer 2 :
most likely.
Answer 3 :
Sure, unless the laptop was made in CHINA.
Answer 4 :
It depends. If you have Russian made DVDs, which are chip and of course fake, most likely they are not playable on legally programmed computers. But you can buy also a good DVDs in Moscow. They are more expensive , then fake, but they really have very good choice there, unfortunately only in Russian.
Answer 5 :
Good question. Once you pop in that Russian DVD, your computer will ask you if you want it to play it. If you say "yes" then it will play the DVD. However, it wont play other "regions" DVD. It switches your "region." I think you can switch it up to 4 times. As long as you're planning to stick with Russian DVD's then you won't have a problem. Of course, that only applies to non-bootleg DVD's. If you're planning to play bootlegs, and this is for the sake of answering your question, then it'll play it without having to switch your region. Now, as for the subtitles, get on google and search for Russian subtitles for the film you want to watch. You should be able to download a text version of that file. Once you do, download a program called Video LAN. That program will play your DVD and if you tell it where to find the file, it will display the subtitles as well. Good luck.

Can a US Laptop function well in Europe??

Can a US Laptop function well in Europe?
I am going to live in France for a while. I have a Toshiba that I purchased in the US. Will my laptop works in France? I know that the electricity voltage is different there as well as the power supply plug(different head) Thanks I heard that France has a different voltage and takes a different plug(head) than in the US.
Desktops - 4 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
get an adapter. it'll be fine.
Answer 2 :
Usually laptops as portable device has adapter that can take US and EU voltage. All you need is just outlet adapter. To make sure about voltage check your laptop power supply, it should say Power: 110-240V or something like that. Adapter you need is something like this (US to EU adapter): http://www.allcam.biz/catalog/images2/allcam/us_eu_adapter2.jpg EDIT: this is a universal set and it does have US to EU adapter. http://www.jr.com/sima/pe/SMA_SIP5USB/#productTabDetails or buy just this: http://www.jr.com/franzus/pe/FRN_NW1C/
Answer 3 :
HI, to my knowledge all Toshiba laptops come with a universal type mains adapter which can cope with voltages from 110 - 250. Your laptop will work perfectly in France but you may need an adapter to to convert the mains plug to fit European sockets.
Answer 4 :
Yes, it should be OK. Just make sure you get a European - USA plug adapter. Also, you need to make sure that the input supply voltage of the power pack goes up to 240v, otherwise you risk blowing up the transformer. Hope this helps

Should i go on a trip to france or get a new laptop?

should i go on a trip to france or get a new laptop?
i really want both but i dont think my parents will pay 1800 for me to go on a 9 day trip to france with my class and then buy a new laptop that cost 1500. plus, they pay $100 every month for my dance classes. they said they spend a lot of money on me already and think im too spoiled. but i really dont take these things for granted. i had always wanted to go to paris. its one of my dreams to go there.and as for the laptop, i've been having this one for 3 years now and i had it repaired like twice already. and to top that off, my battery would die if i unplug the charger for even a minute. i seriously need a new one. if i could, getting a job would be an option but i cant because i have cheer(EXPENSIVE) practice almost EVERYDAY, right after school til 5:30. then i have to go home and do homework. i just dont have time for a job. my dad wouldnt let me work anyways, he thinks im too young. IM 15. i feel bad having them pay for everything i'll just choose one. but idk which one i want more

Answer 1 :
go to france. IT is an experience that will pass and would not happen again at the same exact moment of your life. you might be able to go to paris later, but maybe not with your friends or classmates you have now. the experience would be worth more than what you pay for as it would broaden your horizon. the laptop thing would always be there when you come back, and with an old laptop, the only thing needed for the moment is to buy a new set of batteries and use the old thing until it completely dies. you might be able to get a battery for less than a hundred dollars. a new laptop maybe cool, but the experience you would get from a foreign travel would be healthier and better for you.
Answer 2 :
go to france, when you get back get a job, save your money and get a laptop, a trip overseas is priceless in the long run, a laptop will go out of date in 6 months.
Answer 3 :
Go to Paris. You can walk in the steps of Picasso, Utillo and Lautrec in Montmartre or you can do email. You can go to the Cafe Procope and sit in the same booth that Benjamin Franklin occupied or you can play Warcraft. You can see the Mona Lisa, Winged Victory, and the Raft of the Medusa in the Louvre with your own eyes or you can receive e-cards. Go to Paris. Connect with the presence of F. Scott Fitzgerald, Hemingway, James Joyce, Alice B. Toklas, Gertrude Stein, ands the ghosts of the Lost Generation, the Gilded Age, and the Enlightenment. Walk along the rue St. Jacques and touch the pavement where once Roman legionaries trod. See Notre Dame, St. Chapelle, and Sacre Coeur to understand the heights to which man soars to speak to his god. Visit the Memorial to the Deported and be reminded of the depths to which he can sink when he turns away from Him. Go to Paris. Learn that life doesn't have to be fast food and coffee in a cardboard cup and that there is still a place for leisurely meals and just watching the world go by. Understand that there are different ways of living, different ways of thinking and that maybe, just maybe, people in other countries have something to teach us. Go to Paris. And yes, do it when you're young. Do it at the first opportunity. Maybe you will have other chances. I hope you do. But maybe not. And if, some day, you are sitting, grey haired before the fireplace, in the twightlight of your life, do you want to be able to remember Paris or a new laptop? Go to Paris.
Answer 4 :
I say the laptop, in the long run, it's better. Plus, it's cheaper than just a trip to France, which could be possible maybe later in your life.
Answer 5 :
Go to France, you will never forget the experience. You can get a laptop later. If you want both now, get a job. 1500 can add up quick. Plus it will show you can do it.
Answer 6 :
Neither. You do sound spoiled.
Answer 7 :
Buy a battery and go to France.
Answer 8 :
Go to France and enjoy a memory that will last a lifetime a laptop will last a few years and then its gone. South of France is the best and come see us in the UK
Answer 9 :
going to france with your class? DO IT!!! i went with my class and it was the most incredible experience of my life! no exaggeration, i changed so much in those few days. it is something you will never regret, so go for it and enjoy every last second, i wish every day that i could go back
Answer 10 :
Go to France! You never know,it might be the only chance you will ever have to do this.
Answer 11 :
I agree with Rillifin. Go to Paris. In my lifetime I have had the great pleasure of visiting Rio De Janerio, Tokyo, Singapore, Hong Kong, Bermuda, Manila, Sydney, Wellington, Mexico City, Yokohama, Toronto, Quebec, San Francisco, Hawaii, Los Angeles,Chicago,San Diego, Denver, Miami and a thousand other cities throughout the US in 42 different States.A lap top? Pack your bags. There aren't a lot of 30 year old cheer leaders anyway. If you are going to be spoiled, (which you already are) take the things that will last a lifetime.

Save for trip to france?

What should i do? Save for trip to france? Or get a new laptop?
Well my family has a computer, but its really slow. So I wanted to get a laptop. Until I found out that my french class might be going to france during spring break next year. Me and my friend really want to go, but money is defiantly going to be a problem. I have about $1,100.00 in my savings account right now. I was thinking if I get a job, and work every weekend untill the beginning of April (spring break), then I should have enough money right? I also really want a laptop so that I could have my own computer that would run faster than my family's, would be blank and empty allowing me to store stuff without having to search forever, and so that i could download some picture editing software like photoshop, because im really starting to get into stuff like photography and editing pictures. And I could just have my own space so that no one else could see what im doing or would be able to look at my pictures and other files. I think i have enough to get a reasonable computer with $1,100 right? By reasonable I mean a fast, not too expensive, but still a good computer. Me and my friend really want to go to france, but if i decide to get the computer instead and end up not having enough money from the part time job im going to get soon, then she said that she wouldn't go. So basically if she doesn't go i don't go and if i don't go she doesn't go. And shes one of my best friends i've known her since the beginning of last year and i have practically all of my classes with her this year(which made me really happy =]). So i really don't want to let her down, and this would be an experience we both wouldn't forget. This trip is going to cost about $2,500 so im about half way there. The teacher said that its a better deal then planning the trip by yourself because it could easily add up to $5,000. If you were put into this situation what would you do? Thanks for the help =] Kadin T, thanks, but no thanks I don't have a lot of gold jewelry to sell, and most if it means something to me. I'd rather earn the money on my own. and since im only 15 i don't think my mom would approve of something like that....

Answer 1 :
why not do both? you can purchase a good laptop for about 5 or 6 hundred. Save the rest for your trip and start saving all odd job money for France. If you decide not to buy the computer... just remember there is always next summer to do that. Even if the family computer is slow it works... better than none at all!! LOL Go on your trip to France.. it might be the best experience you will have as a young adult. Chances are that may not happen again and you would regret not going. Do you think you could do a bake sale, garage sale and put that money to the trip?
Answer 2 :
I agree with Kay. You new laptop will be obsolete in less than a year, certainly by the time you go to college. It will be just so much landfill. But if you go to France, that you will have forever.

Do they use a different radio frequency there?

My wi-fi laptop is good, it just doesn't work in France. Do they use a different radio frequency there?
My HP laptop is wi-fi enabled. This is great in England and in Spain. I am unable to use this wi-fi in France. Perhaps the French use a different frequency and maybe I have to buy a new wi-fi card to use while I am there. Perhaps I should buy an 811.n card.Comments would be appreciated.Arthur
Laptops & Notebooks - 4 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
considering the french have a different way of doing almost everything else, I suppose its possible they have a different frequency for wifi. However its more likely that you are simplyin an area that does not have any useable signals. The format of wifi is universal and the frequency range would be the same whether its in the Americas or not....Siemens did just add a new area to central france but as far as I know, its not everywhere (pretty much like the rest of the world).
Answer 2 :
There may not be any hot spots for internet access in France
Answer 3 :
WiFi should work in France. Please note that 802.11n is just another type of Wifi so it shouldn't make any differance.
Answer 4 :
France uses different steps (or distance between frequencies) in their wifi. To use theirs (if your wireless card supports it) Go to device manager (right click on "My Computer", then click on "Properties", then "Hardware" tab, then "Device Manager" button). Then find your wifi card, right click, hit "Properties", click "advanced" tab, and then there would be an option for what country. Just look at everything in the list and see which one pulls up a Value of : FCC or USA. Once you see that, click it and change it to France. This is for Windows XP, if you have another Windows OS, the steps are simliar.

Hi, Have travelled millions of miles by air since 2000 including many times by Air France, laptops in hand luggage have never been a problem, you have to take it out and put it in seperate plastic tub before it goes through Xray, thats alll. Hope it helps.
Answer 2 :
Nothing changed Dec 25th when it comes to carrying a laptop into the cabin. Same rules as before. Flights to the US have a more strict security check with a second pat down before boarding. Nothing that will affect a flight from the US to Europe, or flights from Europe to any destination (except the US).

I need for a laptop computer in France?

More info on "What type of converter/adaptor plug kit do I need for a laptop computer in France?"?
Hello, I asked this question several weeks ago and received some very wonderful answers. (What type of converter/adaptor plug kit do I need for a laptop computer in France? I'm wanting to bring my laptop on my trip to Paris France and I'm a little confused about the Converter/Adaptor Plug Kit for overseas travel. The ones I see are a 1600 watt converter and says good for small appliances. Will these work for a laptop (it's a gateway tablet laptop) or do I need some thing else, and if I need some thing else where do I find it???) Now, I want to make sure I understand it. The chargers I'm taking with me are Input 110-240V~3A 50/60Hz, 100-240V~50/60Hz 0.2A, and AC 100V-240V 200mA 47-63Hz. So with these all I need is the plug adaptor to use them in Paris, France? If I understood the previous answers correctly I wouldn't need a converter at all? Any help in understanding this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all for your help!!!!!
Paris - 4 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
you just need to buy a plug and your adaptor should be able to receive 240V 50/60hz in AC. The main difference is about the voltage. In North America you are using 100-110V and in Europe 240V. and your computer is working with a current of 19V (or something similar). So you don't need any converter
Answer 2 :
for laptops, the power block is your converter. All you need is a plug adapter from the american flat prongs to the european round prongs. they are less than $1 in a convenient store in europe.
Answer 3 :
What's been said - you do not need a convertor, just an adaptor plug.
Answer 4 :
As "Tim" pointed out (and rightly so) the power block (the big black cube) is your transformer. So you do not need a Voltage or Wattage converter. You will need a plug adaptor to use in Paris. Hope this helps, JPJ

Hi there, Australian voltage is 220-240 V — your laptop will be able to cope with the voltage which is the same in France. All you will need to do is get a plug adapter to adapt the flat prongs to the round prongs. Hope this helped, JPJ
Answer 2 :
just a plug. All computers ( especially laptops) are built in order to be compatible to different current intensities you may find all over the world. When i go to France, from the US, i use a small adapter plug. It works perfectly fine

Nice, France - Taking laptop on holiday?

Nice, France - Taking laptop on holiday?
hello people, me and my mum are going on holiday tomorrow and the hotel has Wifi so i want to take my laptop. however, my mum is a little unsure whether i should take it or not. so whats it like in Nice? More specifically, whats it like in the hotel names: Comte De Hotel Nice (http://www.hotelconnect.co.uk/destinations/hotelpic.asp?citycode=NCE&hotelcode=667&twhoc=googleUK&gclid=CIKL3a7k2J0CFcts4wodwSPmsw) any experiences of you going to Nice with your laptop? cheers
Other - France - 3 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Do you really want to worry about a laptop while on holidays? If you read the information about the hotel you'll see the Wifi is in the lobby, not in the rooms, so you won't have any privacy and might annoy other guests and/or hotel staff. Playing games and chatting at all hours could be a problem. All hotels, from cheap to really expensive, warn people about leaving valuable items in the room. So you need to work out what to do with the laptop when you go out. My advice is leave it at home.
Answer 2 :
No problem with your laptop here, just like any hotel in Europe you may get charged to access the internet through their wi fi, Can;t tell you about that particular hotel, There are quite a few intwrnet cafes here,so if you just need to pick up e mail etc that option maybe good for you. Have fun and enjoy yourself here, it is a beautiful part of the world.
Answer 3 :
Get a netbook. I picked up an Acer Asprie One (Linux vesion is fine for checking emails etc) on ebay for 120 euros. Weighing in at just 900 grammes (2 pounds), it doesn't add too much to your baggage so makes an excellent travel computer. Even though Nice is a great place (I go there regularly to visit the in-laws), it's good to be able to check your emails and get the English news. I find that hotels are evenly split between providing wifi free of charge or charging extortionate rates. You cannot usually tell from the hotel web site which is the case. But you can also generally find free wifi in cafes, so you can check your emails and chat on Skype while having a drink.

Do I need a laptop adapter in France?

Do I need a laptop adapter in France?
I am leaving for France for three weeks in two days. Do I need a laptop adapter? I will be in Brittany and Picardy if that matters. I have heard mix reviews on this subject. The program director told me that I do not need one and it only matters for hair straightener's, etc. Thanks! Also, by adapter I mean one that will work in the French outlets. Will my adapter work? Also, I need my plug for my laptop to work. If my plug falls out it dies because the battery is dead. I know the voltage is different but not sure on the subject.
Laptops & Notebooks - 1 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
you will not need a voltage adapter. but you will need a plug adapter and you can use your exissting laptop adapter with the plug adapter to make it fit into their outlets since they are different. to going to an electronics store and see if they have any. you can find them in airports usually at the travel shop but they will cost more over there. if you have a fry's electronics in your area go there and tell them you need a travel plug adapter. they are like $3 - $5. once again you do not need a voltage adapter. those are usually around $20 - $50.

Is it safe to recharge my Dell laptop using a converter in France while I'm on vacation. ?

Monitors - 2 Answers

Answer 1 :
Absolutely as long as you use the dell charging adapter. That adapter has a wide range of input and it will bring down the voltage to what's appropriate for your laptop. So technically the converter is changing the plug from US to France..
Answer 2 :
European voltages vary from country to country. Google for more definitive spec's, but I wouldn't try a US power supply there or you'll fry it. Check with 'i go' for possible devices or adapters.

I am going to France with my laptop. Will I be able to connect to internet easily?

Internet - 5 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
not sure about that but make sure that you bring a power converter because the power is different if you are coming from the US or Canada.
Answer 2 :
Depends on if the hotel that you stay at has WiFi or provides internet service.
Answer 3 :
as long as there is a hot spot, like in a coffee shop, you'll be able to connect. just change your wireless connection settings to connect to them. go to your wireless settings in the bottom right hand corner, by double clicking, and just select whom you want to connect to.
Answer 4 :
If you will be trying to connect with a modem by a phone line, check to see if there is a french driver for the modem. As the dial tone in most European countries sounds different then in the US, your modem may not recognize the sound and could insist no phone line is present.
Answer 5 :
i wouldn't go to france, first of all. but since you are going, a power converter might not be a bad idea. you never know how backasswards their supplies are. otherwise, i don't think you need to worry. I believe the standards are the same world wide.

Using my laptop in France. Help, please.?

Using my laptop in France. Help, please.?
this should be a simple question for people who know. I'm sorry if the answer is already in Yahoo! Answers. I can't exactly find it. I am going to France for a couple of weeks. I've gone many times before, but never taken my laptop. I used my iPhone last time and my bill was outrageous when I got back, even thought I bought some data plan they told me would cover up to a zillion GB. Whatever. If I find a wifi hot spot in France (secured or unsecured and password provided), do I just get on the same way I would in the US? My friend who lives there tells me a relative 2 cottages down has wifi that I can access when I am at her home. She would be too kind to mention if I were costing any fees. Is it possible someone might have a limit on their wifi and I would be costing them money by using lots of data time (you see how little I know about these things?)? Maybe I am overthinking this. Do I just show up with my laptop and connect to hotspots like I do in the US?
Other - Internet - 1 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
A hot spot in France works the same way as it does in the US, if your friend has a download limit, that could be an extra charge, just like in the US. Best advice I can give, is don't stream any movies or Albums, you tube and single songs should be OK. The only way to know what someone's internet plan is, is to ask the bill payer as all hotspots look the same.

Can I ship a laptop to France and will I be able to use it there?

Can I ship a laptop to France and will I be able to use it there?
Is it legal to ship a Dell Inspiron 600m laptop via Federal Express to France from the United states? I've heard that there are regulations about exporting technology, but I would think that France would have caught up to my five year-old computer by now. Also, assuming it is legal to ship the laptop there, will I be able to use it given the differences in power outlets? Would I just need a different external adapter, or would I need a new internal power supply too? Bonus: If you link me to somewhere where I can buy any new parts that I would need to use my laptop in France, I will be very likely select your answer.
Laptops & Notebooks - 1 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Most power supplies are dual voltage so all you need is the outlet adapter which you can get at most electronic stores or even wal-mart. Just look on the power supply and if it says input 100-240v (or thereabouts) then you're ok. For personal use, you can take it with you to France. You can't export for resale purposes.

Ship laptop from US to France?
Hi, I am selling a used laptop on eBay in US and i had a buyer who bought the same over eBay. He is currently in France and wants me to ship it there. I checked the shipping rates and USPS is offering around $50 to ship the item from US to France I want to know if there would be any additional custom/import duty/fees for the buyer to receive the laptop in France ? Will there be much hassles for the buyer to collect the laptop in France ? I will ship it ONLY when i receive the confirmed payment and its through Paypal, so i am safe in that. eBay now requires you to list IN your description that Customs Fees are the responsibility of the buyer. Write the buyer, and explain this to him. It is not your problem, it is his, and he should know this. Be sure to get insurance on the shipment.

I'm going backpacking in France and Italy this summer - should I bring my laptop?

I'm going backpacking in France and Italy this summer - should I bring my laptop?
Or will the laptop just become something to worry about that weighs down my pack?
Packing & Preparation - 6 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
It will only get stolen. Why do you need it? Check your email when you pass a town with an Internet cafe.
Answer 2 :
Eh. 4 the plain maybe. but ur going to see the sights and u dont need a laptop. take pictures. have fun... i'll be in Italy too this summer!
Answer 3 :
if you do then there is a chance it will get stolen but at the same time you can stay connected with ur friends it depends on how long youll b gone
Answer 4 :
no, dont bring it , just dead weight and worry
Answer 5 :
Basically, I agree with all the other answerers -- except that I took mine with me on a camping trip to France last year, because I was taking lots of photos and I wanted to download and review them as I went. But you could always upload them to a Photobucket account from an internet cafe, assuming you bring your camera's USB cable... I also did watch films tucked up in my tent at night, which was neat, but that's not really a good enough excuse on its own, is it? =D All in all, I vote for leaving the laptop at home: it'll weigh on your mind as much as on your back.
Answer 6 :
Leave it at home. Would you bring a portable tv to the Grand Canyon?

Plugging a laptop into a power outlet in France?

Plugging a laptop into a power outlet in France?
I just got an international converter set but I'm afraid it won't be of help because it says not to use it with appliances that use more than 25 W. The set has five different adapters (for Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia...) and a converter. Can I just use the adapter without the converter? Thanks. It really says "DO NOT USE converter for computers, televisions, fax machines, power tools or electronic controlled appliances exceeding 25 watts." It doesn't say anything about not using the adapters.
Paris - 2 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
I wouldn't. The converter converts the charge so you won't have a problem with the higher amount of electricity. I have a friend who plugged in her charger for her camera without that converter and she shut off power in the hallway and she totally fried her charger. I wouldn't suggest doing that unless you want a fried laptop. I'd suggest going to internet cafes instead because they're cheap, often 1-2 euros an hour and the connection is fast.
Answer 2 :
Most laptops don't need a converter, just an adapter. Check your laptop AC adapter for the following mention: Input: 100-240V~ This means it will work anywhere with the correct "plug". Same goes for mp3 players.
Answer 3 :
You just need the adapter to be able to stick your flat two-prong US plug into the round two-prong French outlet. Your laptop AC adapter will take care of the 110V (US) to 210V (French) voltage conversion. You can actually check your adapter input rating; it should indicate something like "110-220V, 50/60Hz".

Yes it is. They should be safe in checked baggage or if you would like it can be carry-on. There should be no worries. Do not travel with multiple laptops if you can, they may charge duty or decline multiple units entry.
Answer 2 :
yes it is just turn it off when they take off and land like when i go to japan to visit
Answer 3 :
I always travel with camera and laptop, you should get a case for extra padding to protect your gadgets.
Answer 4 :
Yes, it is, but I would never put something valuable like a laptop or a good camera in checked baggage. I fly between the US and Europe fairly frequently and have never had any problem with either. If it's a personal, rather than a business trip, I would normally leave the laptop at home though. It's generally pretty easy to find internet access throughout Europe so leaving the laptop is one less thing to lug around in transit. I always have at least one camera with me where ever I go.

laptop necessary gear to plug?

Traveling to Europe (Italy,Swistzerland, Spain, Germany and France) using laptop necessary gear to plug?
I have an xpsm1210 from dell and need to know what do I need to plug it to the 230V@50Hz electric service in Europe
Other - Europe - 3 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
The power supply that comes with the laptop should accept 230 V@50 Hz as well as US voltage/current, so you do not need a voltage converter. You can check the label on the power supply to verify this. You will only need the plug adapter that converts from the US style two flat prongs to the European two round prongs for the countries you've listed. I've used my laptops in all of these countries with no problems. If you go to the UK, you will need a different plug adapter - they're widely available and relatively inexpensive.
Answer 2 :
All AC adapters for dell XPS notebooks have a multiple power input from 100-240 volts. You just need a plug adapter to fit it in the wall outlet (type C of attached link) which is commonly used in continental europe for appliances not requiring grounding.
Answer 3 :
just need a plug to fit European outlets. That little box on the cable converts it all, you don't need a special adapter.

French voltage is the same as in the UK (220 - 240 v), so all you need is a travel adaptor which changes your 3 pin plug into a continental 2 pin one.

I ship a brand new laptop to Ukraine or France with US postal service?

can I ship a brand new laptop to Ukraine or France with US postal service?
This laptop is in original Dell Box.
Laptops & Notebooks - 2 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Yes, you can. However, USPS will not be responsible for it once it leaves the US, and the customs people in Ukraine and/or France will charge the recipient a customs duty on it as an "import fee". Usually this import duty will be 20-50% (or more) of the value of the laptop, and the recipient will have to pay it before they can recieve it. I would ship via DHL if you really want to send it. It will still cost for duty, but it will arrive in DHL's care (or UPS or FedX - but DHL is more widely used there). -- Edit -- Natalya brings up a good point. Although Dell sells directly into the Ukrainian market, and supposedly has "service" there, you will find it almost non-existant and will likely have to ship to a western European facility for repairs (or Kyiv at best). The local shops that would take care of it if you bought it from them, will not honor the US warranty.
Answer 2 :
Kevin is right, you can ship it to the Ukraine. But think again if you really need it. I'm not sure about DELL service in the Ukraine (does it exist at all?). What to do if this laptop doesn't work properly? Pack again and send back to the US? Just a though.

There are no problems bringing a lap top into France. I cross the Atlantic several times each year. Check with your internet service provider. They might have access numbers in France to get a dialup connection. If they don't, you might consider signing on with AOL or compuserve for a month because they have access points everywhere.

Is there a customs/import fee to send a laptop computer to Paris, France?
My niece is studying aboard in Paris for a year. She brought a laptop but it seems to be failing. Her dad wants to send her a new laptop but will the French expect some kind of import fee to be paid? We have figured out it will cost over $100 just to mail it, it will be tough to have to pay a heavy custom/duty fee on top of this.

European Union duty (15 %) and import sales tax (19%) will apply. They will be calculated on the basis of the total value including shipment fees. A better idea would be buying the laptop within France, they sell computers too you know and on request even with software in English. You may also contact a large US direct sales pc company at their French subsidiary by typing .fr instead of .com

Do I need a transformer for my laptop in France?

Do I need a transformer for my laptop in France?
Im from Mexico and I dont know if the different voltage can affect my laptop thanks!
Paris - 5 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Only if you are using AC power.
Answer 2 :
I am fairly sure you need a voltage adaptor... what is mexico running theses days? 220 or 120... Europe usese 220 and I'm fairly sure that Mexico will eb on 120... (and on single phase while eurpoe is three phase, but that matters less for outlets).. I'd say go to the local store and pick up a set of travel adapters for the plugs and to convert the power as it's needed. I don't think you'll need anything more than that... If nothing else, the plugs are commonly different in different countries and having that extra set of plugs will help with that just in case your in a old part of europe...
Answer 3 :
Look on the back of the transformer you use in Mexico. There should be a range of input voltage that the transformer can handle. If the range is 110v to 240v, then you have no worries. The voltage in Europe varies between 220v and 240v. As long as the transformer you currently uses can handle the range then you are protected. The transformers that come with most laptops have an input range of 110v to 240v. You will have to get yourself a plug end adaptor since the wall sockets in France have a different configuration. Look in travel stores or wait until you get to the airport and give yourself some time to buy one there. Most international terminals sell adapters for all parts of the world. Hope this helps
Answer 4 :
If you bring your laptop's AC/DC converter, most likely it'll work at 220 V as well. Probably you'll need a plug adapter for it, to plug it in a French outlet (two round prongs).
Answer 5 :
YES...not a transformer, but a plug adapter or voltage cha

People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
yes it wil work fine its not as if the wifi protocol is any different over here in europe dont forget to take along a travel plug adapter otherwise you can tplug the power cord in
Answer 2 :
The 802.11b/g protocol is the same no matter where you go. There are some minor differences in the radio frequencies allowed in different countries however. Most of Europe allows for an additional 2 channels beyond those permitted in the U.S. for the 2.4 GHz band. For example, France uses channels 10-13, and the United States uses 1-11. The range of channels used in all of Europe however can be from 1-13. This will vary from country to country. You'll only be able to connect on channels 10 & 11 in France if you have a card intended for the US. If you're from the UK, you shouldn't have any issues at all. In order to connect, just find an open access point and double-click the wireless connection found in the "system-tray" (down near the clock on the right). Then select the open access point you wish to use.

Contact US Customs. While the carrier may be able to estimate the duty, the Customs Service has the final say.

If it is your laptop, you should not pay import taxes. Import taxes are only paid when there is a commercial transaction involved.

Answer 1 :
i think they will if you mean airplane. but some domestic flights dont. last time i visited they allowed me on the plan
Answer 2 :
Yes, they will work here. The power supply that comes with the computer should already accept either the North American 110V or the 220V common here in Europe. Look at the label. It should say something like 100 - 240 Vac, 50/60 Hz. for the inputs. This says it will work with either voltage. What you do need is the plug adapter that converts from the US plug standard (two flat prongs) to the European standard (two round prongs) or the UK standard. The one that works in France will also work in most of the rest of Europe (such as here in Italy). You need a separate one for the UK though. You can get the adapters at Target, Brookstones, luggage stores, airport shops, Radio Shack, ... they're widely available. I have several laptops purchased in the US that I use here. However, you should consider whether you really want to bring your laptop. If you're coming for work or moving here, it's necessary. If you're coming for a short vacation (especially if you're moving around a lot), there are public internet places widely available in Europe. Your laptop would be just extra weight and a target for theft.

Let's see, you're basically asking France or WoW. Decide how much of an antisocial nerd you are, and you'll have your answer. WoW will be there forever, but going to France is a once in a lifetime chance. Especially with the way airfares are down right now due to the economy and all.

I would go to France. It is a once in a lifetime experience. It depends on how long you are staying. If it is for a month, compared to a week, it is totally worth it. The culture is great and the food is better. I went there and I'll never forget it.
Answer 9 :
dude go to france. france is better than a laptop
Answer 10 :
umm i would get the laptop then wait untill you have enough money again to go to france. then go. you can even bring your laptop with you.
Answer 11 :
If France is a once in a lifetime thing and you can never go again, go to France! But you will get more out of a laptop and if WoW is really that important to you get the laptop. Did you know that they sell small laptops a Target for $360 so if you can live with a smaller laptop do both! =) Hope I helped -Esme xoxoxox Ps: When I say small I mean small. They are for hands of a teen or someone in there mid 20's and probaly for girls so yeah. They come in Pure Black and Pure White.
Answer 12 :
France will be there next month, year, or whenever unless you are going on a honeymoon now so that, hopefully, you will not be doing it again soon. If you put off the computer, you will miss a year of use you cannot get back. If you get the computer you can use it until you go and have it with you if you want. If you go to France first, you will not have the new laptop until however long it takes after you get back to save for it. I will not criticize your desire to see France instead of a place with, possibly honest, polite people who will welcome you and your money instead of just your money. Alienware Area-51 m15x Laptop is a very high rated gaming laptop on various reviews I've seen. If interested shop around for price or trust.
Answer 13 :
Buy laptop first, then do business with your laptop to get money. After you have enough money, then go to france or other places you like. Check to see which laptop you want to choose: http://www.imam4u.com/computer/?c=acer&#chitikatest=laptop -smn-

Do I need power adaptor or plug adaptor for my laptop in France??

Do I need power adaptor or plug adaptor for my laptop in France?
I heard that most U.S. laptops do not require a power adaptor for Europe. I just bought a Toshiba laptop and I am planning on taking it to France. Can someone (with technical experience, please!) tell me if this is safe? Also, where is the cheapest place to get a plug adaptor? Thanks in advance.
Laptops & Notebooks - 1 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
The AC-DC brick of your laptop is likely compatible internationally. This is done so that the manufacturer saves money by only having to make and stock one product. Check to make sure that the adapter says Input: 100-240V, 50/60Hz. If it does, there is no problem electronically. You will, however, need an adapter to the French plugs. There are two types, but the most useful and most common is the Europlug. Unsurprisingly, it works in pretty much every continental European country (careful, so NOT the UK). The Europlug will also fit into the other type of socket that is used in France. You do not need a voltage converter for most DC-powered devices (AC-DC converters, power bricks, phone chargers, battery chargers), but again check for 100-250V, 50/60Hz labeling. Using USA equipment not labeled for 250V is a safety hazard! The USA-Europlug adapter is available for US$2.00 at http://www.allelectronics.com/make-a-store/item/AP-EU/USA-TO-EURO-PLUG-ADAPTER/-/1.html . The Europlug is terribly convenient and mine gets a workout about once a year.

Go here http://www.travel-images.com/electric-plugs.html You probably do not need a power converter, just a plug adapter. Most laptop power supplies will work with 110 and 220. Some have a switch. BE VERY SURE so you don't blow it up.
Answer 2 :
Theres information on french plug at whatplug.net website it says the following and on the site there is a picture of the plug type France 230 V 50 Hz Type E hope this is of use
Answer 3 :
I've used a laptop in France with just a travel plug. Most power supplies can cope with the variations. You really shouldn't need a convertor unless you also need it for something else. Even so, I'd just run from French mains.

Buying a laptop in France when I live in America?
Well technically I'm not in America; the Caribbean, but we use the same current as America (I just thought that would be too long to put in the question section) So if I bought a laptop in France, could I use it where I live? Or I shouldn't bother? Thanks.

Answer 1 :
You can use anywhere you live
Answer 2 :
You can use the laptop anywhere. The issue would be the plug. Also, I know with DVD players they only play dvds from that region (I think there are 12 regions.... Not quite sure), I am not sure if that carries over to computer dvd players. You might also have everything in French and if you want to convert it you would need to see if the laptop would do that. If you are trying to learn or are already fluent in French, that might not be an issue. Best bet would be to purchase one where you live. If there are any issues with it, you can take it back, get it repaired with relatively few problems compared to that of purchasing in a different country.

you might need a power adapter for proper electrical current.
