The 802.11b/g protocol is the same no matter where you go. There are some minor differences in the radio frequencies allowed in different countries however. Most of Europe allows for an additional 2 channels beyond those permitted in the U.S. for the 2.4 GHz band. For example, France uses channels 10-13, and the United States uses 1-11. The range of channels used in all of Europe however can be from 1-13. This will vary from country to country. You'll only be able to connect on channels 10 & 11 in France if you have a card intended for the US. If you're from the UK, you shouldn't have any issues at all. In order to connect, just find an open access point and double-click the wireless connection found in the "system-tray" (down near the clock on the right). Then select the open access point you wish to use.
