Can I ship a laptop to France and will I be able to use it there?
Is it legal to ship a Dell Inspiron 600m laptop via Federal Express to France from the United states? I've heard that there are regulations about exporting technology, but I would think that France would have caught up to my five year-old computer by now. Also, assuming it is legal to ship the laptop there, will I be able to use it given the differences in power outlets? Would I just need a different external adapter, or would I need a new internal power supply too? Bonus: If you link me to somewhere where I can buy any new parts that I would need to use my laptop in France, I will be very likely select your answer.

Most power supplies are dual voltage so all you need is the outlet adapter which you can get at most electronic stores or even wal-mart. Just look on the power supply and if it says input 100-240v (or thereabouts) then you're ok. For personal use, you can take it with you to France. You can't export for resale purposes.
