Where can I find a European power adapter?
I'm leaving for france Next tuesday. (June12) and I will need to be plug in my Laptop, camera, cell phone at the hotel.. I know that the plugs there are totally different. So where can I get one fast.. I will be staying at a Hilton in Paris. Do you think they will have it at the hotel?

Answer 1 :
The hotel will be happy to lend them to you free of charge. However you can probably find them at a luggage store in your local mall. If you really don't want to take a chance you can buy them on line at www.magellans.com and pay extra for overnight shipping.
Answer 2 :
You will find them in the shops at the airports. Sears, AAA,CAA. If the hotel does not have them there is a large shopping mall in the centre of Paris.
Answer 3 :
the internet is a wonderful place to find out.......O.O.
Answer 4 :
The hotel might have some at the front desk to lend to guests, but during the summer months they are probably very busy and might have all of the adapters lent out. If you just need a plug adapter and not a current converter, you can get a cheap one at Radio Shack. It's lightweight and compact and has slide-out prongs for countries all over the world. Walmart also sells them. You can buy them in the airport, but they're usually more expensive there. $9.00, ships in 1-2 business days: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2102419&cp=2032056.2032136.2032156&allCount=20&fbn=Converter%2FNo&f=PAD%2FPower+Converter%2FNo&fbc=1&parentPage=family
Answer 5 :
Not really an answer to your question, but how about sending us some pics of your holiday or a video.?

Voltage converter question in France?
voltage converter question in France?
I have a Powerline global power converter and I used it to plug into an outlet here in Paris to power my laptop. I put the switch on 50 watts and after about 15 minutes it got pretty hot and started to smell. Is something wrong with the converter? thank you Bradley!!! I didnt think to do that but I tried it and it worked. I can now keep the laptop powered for our stay.

Answer 1 :
The source voltage is not a correct match with your converter. Its drawing more current then designed specifications.
Answer 2 :
I'm always leery about using this type of device with a switching computer type power supply. More than likely the laptop's power supply is presenting an inductive load to the converter that it can't handle. One suggestion, check the laptop's power supply - most are these little rectangular plastic blocks - and many will operate from 100 - 240V If you see something like input: 100v - 240v - then you don't need the converter - the laptop's power supply will handle the French power directly - others have a switch to allow youse the 220 volt from European outlets directly - you may just need to use one of the adapters that came with your converter. be careful - good luck.

Call them, they may have an authorized dealler in your area. If it will cost your more to ship it there than to repair it in the UK, go for the cheaper option.
Answer 2 :
Packard Bell offers service throughout Europe. I would look on their U.K. support Web site: http://support.packardbell.com/uk/

Apple laptop in Europe??
Apple laptop in Europe???????
I have the new black apple laptop and have a trip to both France and Spain in July. It says on the charger box thing: AC 100-240 v 50-60Hz 1.5A output 16.5v. Now my question is....can I simply plug this into a socket without shorting the cord and/or my laptop?
Laptops & Notebooks - 5 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
the plugs are different from the states
Answer 2 :
France and Spain have the same outlets. you need nothing else than a plug converter US-European. you can get it in every electronics store. the voltage in Europe is 230V/50Hz so you can use your charger without a problem.
Answer 3 :
you first need to get the outlet adapters for france and spain. (the shape) You dont need a converter unless the voltage is hight than the 240 limit. Your MacBook will be safe. I used it in China where it is 220 volts!!! Only warning is that the adapter will get hot, but dont worry about it frying up.
Answer 4 :
Your laptop will operate PERFECTLY on the European voltage and frequency (220~240 VAC @50Hz). You should go to a travel store and get a plug adapter only, you won't need a bulky transformer. Your wireless Internet should also work if you're in proximity to a wireless hub.
Answer 5 :
Try radio shack for adapters.

Should I bring my laptop to europe??
Should I bring my laptop to europe?
OK well I am traveling to europe for a little over 2 weeks (Italy and France) and I am not worried of taking it on the plane, etc. The only thing I am worried about is leaving it in the hotel room. I of course would leave it in my locked suitcase, but still! I would hate to lose it and I really want to bring it so I can upload pictures, check weather, etc. What's your opinion? I am staying at good hotels, not holes in the walls FYI

Answer 1 :
I think you should. Having a computer is always useful no matter if you are at home or halfway across the world.
Answer 2 :
If you do, make sure to buy a proper wall outlet converter or it won't really matter if it gets stolen.
Answer 3 :
TAKE IT! of course take it! you could skype and stuff, and find out about things to do! don't even worry for a second about it getting stolen, if you're staying in a good hotel, AND locking it in the suitcase no one is gonna touch! heck even if you wouldn't lock it in a good hotel no one would ever go through your suitcase. i even stayed in crappy hostels and just locked my suitcase, and no one touched anything. however to remember to bring a proper outlet indeed.. haha have lot's of fun!

No it's not! Use an instant messenger to talk to her. Trying to bypass a blocked website on a school computer is now a Federal offense.
Answer 2 :
Use another computer, @
Answer 3 :
Buy a Calling Card and phone her. Alternatively, download and install Skype, put a little credit on and call her that way. School laptops belong to the Department of Education and the blocks are ordered by the Department of Education. Bypassing official web blocks - at school or in the workplace - amounts to a criminal misdemeanor

use agentdog.info schooldate.info schoolthis.info slapacop.info baseballaddict.info proxies get blocked very fast..to get Fresh Proxies right to your inbox join the group http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/getaproxy/join
Answer 5 :
The problem is proxies are dangerous and pretty much don't work.
Answer 6 :
Unblock your favorite websites with this proxies 2010gate.6te.net heavendoor.freeoda.com freetravel.orgfree.com I hope it would be helpfully for you
Answer 7 :
All of the modern firewalls filters like Websense can detect a proxy as soon as you connect to it. It’s actually incredibly trivial to do. The filtering software just tries to connect to the address in question. If it gets a response it’s a proxy and it’s then blocked. The only question is whether the system is set to auto block or if it emails or texts the admin and lets him do it manually, which can buy a few hours. What needs to be considered is that in using a proxy to unblock school and work networks you are breaking numerous laws. Hacking a government (most schools are government run) security system is not legal. At work, you are probably also breaking laws about hacking as well as violating your employment agreement. Getting fired or suspended from school is a definite possibility at the least. Even if you do get a proxy to work for a bit what do you get? A lot of these are hacker pots designed to either steal your information or plant bots on your computer that they can use. They use them to hide their identity by working through your computer and its internet connection. The recent Facebook and Twitter DDOS attacks that took down their entire networks is a classic example of what people using proxies and getting infected enables. Even if it’s not a hacker pot it’s probably loaded with advertisements as that’s how the owner is making money. In either case the owner has no incentive to provide fast response or high bandwidth. The owner of the proxy is using you and delivering very little back to you. In fact, there is a good chance they are data mining you so they can sell your information to advertisers who want to target their ads. In most cases advanced web site features won’t work and only basic access will be available anyway. At the end of the day you’re just wasting a lot of time that could be spent doing something more productive at best and risking your computer and more at the worst. For a laptop you don't need a converter. They all can handle 100-240 volt current. All you need is an adapter for the plug. One for Southern Europe would have two round pins.

My laptop don't start. Can my hard drive be damaged?
I bought a 16GB USB flash drive on eBay from Hong Kong. I used a test software to check if it was really a 16GB size. The software started to show errors on writing. I let it run through the night. When I wake up in the morning, I saw that my laptop was turned off! I pressed the power button and it didn't turn on! I put a good battery in it and it doesn't turn on. The green light on the power adapter is not turned on. I think that the power system inside the laptop is damaged. I am in France and will be back in USA in october 22 to use the warranty of my laptop. But I didn't do a backup since 1 year so I'm afraid that the hard drive could be damaged also. The laptop is plugged into a UPS system so no risk with lightning at night.

My guess would be that it is not your harddrive as none of the other parts of it work "your green power light". I would check the power supply and the leads coming from the power supply also try leaving it plugged in and see if you can power it up that way.

| GOING TO EUROPE!?!?! Need help with plug adapters for my HP laptop?? I will be visiting Switzerland, France, Spain and Italy on my trip, what type of power converter/adapter do I need to power my laptop, Ipod and to charge my digital camera??? All are typical US Plugs. THANKS SO MUCH!!! Packing & Preparation - 3 Answers People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions : Answer 1 : Go to your local best buy or radio shack or even future shop. Tell them you need a European adapter and they will know EXACTLY what you need! Answer 2 : wal mart has a world power inverter. itl cover all of europe... enjoy... i went to italy and it was a blast... but wal mart has you covered Answer 3 : Switzerland has different shaped plugs from France/Spain/Italy (still two round pins, but the socket is a squashed hexagon instead of round). You can get all-in-one adapters which would be the best option. http://www.amazon.com/SunPak-TRAVEL-ADAPT-Universal-World-wide-Adapter/dp/B000JC5T82/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1215029701&sr=8-2 Check that the chargers for your laptop/phone/camera can handle 240V...if not you will fry your electronics unless you also bring a stepdown-voltage-converter with you....and even then I'd be dubious. Look on the charger for words like "Input 100-240V"...that would be OK. |

The problem is the Bell Company they are now trying to tier the internet into different speed layers. For thousands of articles on this issue just search for this (NET NEUTRALITY) You might was to keep ckecking your speed by going to the following website http://www.speedmatters.org Also there are some countries that are almost totally fiber optic cable and the speed is great over fiber, other countries are using the power-electric lines that are as fast as or faster than fiber optic. What your probably experiencing is a connection over wireless that ends up going to copper and back to wireless or any combination there-of. Hope this helps! Sparky Miller Wellsville, Ohio

Why black box/flight data recorder are not made to float?
Why black box/flight data recorder are not made to float?
In the Air France crash, they found bodies, briefcases and a laptop floating. Why can't they make the black boxes so they float? It should be easy to make with a chemical that slowly reacts with water and in 24 hours produce enough gas to make it float.
Aircraft - 7 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
A black box is inside he plane. It cannot float out fo the plain. And to give it that ability would compromise the plane in flight. The only way this is possible to to eject the box right before impact. Then they can worry about making it float.
Answer 2 :
if this were to happen, then the possibility exists that they could float away from the crash sight and never be found. As it is now, they are equipped with a sonar device that "pings" similiar to that of a submarine. That is why they have subs out there right now "listening" with their sonar equipment trying to locate the exact position of the boxes.
Answer 3 :
Airliners do not stay intact after hitting water at high velocity. The boxes are free to leave the aircraft, and the beacon starts once it contacts water. If the boxes float they would have no problem reaching the surface since there is no remaining airplane in their way after a hard impact.
Answer 4 :
Because this hasn't been made a priority by those in charge. The technology exists to either have the boxes eject automatically during a crash or, as you stated, can be made to produce a chemical reaction that would enable them to float. It's nonsense to say that making this possible would compromise the safety of the plane during flight - it would if it was designed by an unqualified engineer. I would imagine that if they don't find the boxes for this plane, we'll see some changes made in flight data recorder design.
Answer 5 :
May be it the black box is safe under the water than when it floats.
Answer 6 :
This link will surely help you... be sure to visit... it's so huge that i cannot put the whole stuff here... anyway i'll jus give some selected components to help you out... first of all you cannot make it possibly float because it has so many components integrated together... ==== These early devices used magnetic tape for data storage, much like that used in a tape recorder. As the tape is pulled over an electromagnetic head, sound or numerical data is recorded on the medium. Analog black boxes using magnetic tape are still present aboard many planes, but these recording devices are no longer manufactured. Newer recorders instead use solid-state memory boards, called a Crash Survivable Memory Unit (CSMU), that record data in a digital format. Instead of the moving parts present in older recorders, solid-state devices use stacked arrays of memory chips similar to a USB memory stick. The lack of moving parts eases maintenance while reducing the chance of a critical component breaking in a crash. Solid-state recorders can also save considerably more data than older magnetic tape devices and are more resistant to shock, vibration, and moisture. ==== The Flight Data Recorder collects data from a number of sensors to monitor information like accelerations, airspeed, altitude, heading, attitudes, cockpit control positions, thermometers, engine gauges, fuel flow, control surface positions, autopilot status, switch positions, and a variety of other parameters. Most parameters are recorded a few times per second but some FDRs can record bursts of data at higher frequencies when inputs are changing rapidly. ==== Power for the black boxes is provided by electrical generators connected to the engines. The generators on most large airliners produce a standard output of 115 volt, 400 hertz AC power while some smaller planes instead generate 28 volt DC power... ==== http://www.aerospaceweb.org/question/investigations/q0302.shtml
Answer 7 :
because humans are in fact deeply conservative: although we have the technology, we often are suspicious to allow a change in our lives and existing commodities. It is at least ironic to see many floating bodies but NO floating Black Box. In an era of GPS and Nano-technology transmitted in milli-seconds around the globe, it is a shame to see how ignorance and conservatism makes innocent victims. Humans learn, but slowly, and this will always be like this.

In the Air France crash, they found bodies, briefcases and a laptop floating. Why can't they make the black boxes so they float? It should be easy to make with a chemical that slowly reacts with water and in 24 hours produce enough gas to make it float.

What's the difference between these 2 sentences?I'm pretty desperate so an answer would be deeply appreciated?
What's the difference between these 2 sentences?I'm pretty desperate so an answer would be deeply appreciated?
Bob accuses Kyle of stealing his laptop. Bob accuses Kyle for stealing his laptop. I have a feeling the second sentence sounds as though Bob knows Kyle stole his laptop but is just confronting him. I may be wrong though. English is not my native language but it kind of is. I came to the US from France when I was 5.

Answer 1 :
There are many merchant account providers offering US card processing services. You can Google "merchant account" or "credit card processing" or a similar term. For tips on what to look for in a processing proposal, click on the first link below. Once you select your provider you can go ahead with the application process. Generally the following documents will be required during a merchant account application process: 1. A merchant application - you will have to complete and sign this form. It includes general information about you and your business. 2. A copy of your organization's Articles of Incorporation, unless you are a sole proprietor. 3. A copy of a voided check for the account that you will want your money to be deposited into. 4. Business or personal financials. Your tax returns for the last two years may be requested if your business is new. Once all required paperwork is submitted, the set up of your merchant account should take no longer than two business days.

Sounds like a problem. What OS are you using first off? What version? If windows I think you can change that from the menu invoked by clicking the clock, though I haven't had to do that.
Answer 2 :
just go to the control panal and change the region or from france to us and enjoy your english
Answer 3 :
You can always change it again later. Reason it wants to know your country is for your clock, and the daylight savings time offset.

It sounds like you need a wireless router. they are fairly inexpensive (20-30 dollars US) and you can purchase one at walmart or any electronics store. Follow the directions and set up your wireless router and then the connection will be available for your laptop to connect to. Depending on the model you get, you'll be able to connect to the router from anywhere in your house and possibly even outside. Hope I've helped!

I'm going to France and I plan on bringing my laptop and a camera as well. What kind of travel adapter converter do I need?

Answer 1 :
France has 220v power. twice the 110v we have here, and the plugs have two round pins. Most modern electronic equipment works on both 110 and 220, but check the label to make sure it says 110-220v or 110-240v. (If you plug something that only works on 110v into a 220v outlet, the results can be very exciting.) Plug adapters are available online, like the link below at Amazon, and also in places where they sell travel goods, like stores that sell suitcases or maps. They're quite cheap, under $5 each. There are also fancier three prong adapters, but unless your appliances have three-prong plugs, you don't need them.

Answer 1 :
please go to bestbuy and they can trouble shoot
Answer 2 :
Have you tried a wired connection, plugging a wire from your computer into your wireless router (most wireless routers have WIRED ports on the back). Check the TCP/IP settings on the LAN CONNECTION, maybe something has changed it to STATIC IP (which is wrong).
Answer 3 :
did u reset the ISP modem, that could sometimes be the case since my wireless router stops working if there is no activity. Also make sure that the settings also match with the info that the ISP has such as email, password, IP address, default gateway. If you still have problems, contact the company that manufactures the router.
Answer 4 :
i know how to fix it stick up your but and around the corner threw your tube and out your Bube
Answer 5 :
Call your internet provider company--they should have a support tech who can walk you through it.
Answer 6 :
The very first thing you should try is to reset everything. 1. Reset your cable modem, wait for the modem to come online. and see if it solved your problem. if not then step 2. 2. Reset your wireless router by pressing and holding the reset button on the back or the bottom of your router. After this, you might need to configure your settings but you can do this later. We are just trying to see if it is your router that is causing your problem. After the reset, see if you can pick up the signal from your laptop and also connect to the internet. If it did not work. 3. While you were in France, have you used static IP address? Go to Start -> Setting -> Network connections -> Right Click on your network conntion -> go to properties -> double click on Intenret Protocol (TCP/IP) -> if there are numbers assigned in the boxes, select "Obtain an IP address automatically
Answer 7 :
go somewhere such as best but or circut city. if they don't know, try calling the company where you bought the laptop. did you get any power-outs in france? it can mess up the connection and other things. hope i helped!
Answer 8 :
It seems that your wireless configuration has been erased from your computer when you used it in France. Your gonna have to get the SSID and WEP/WPA key from your hub/router and configure it on your computer so it can connect wirelessly.

Are there taxes/duties on items sent to France through Amazon.fr?
Hello, If I wish to purchase and ship an item to France, Toulouse through the Amazon.fr website AMAZON EU SARL LUXEMBOURG FR. The item is a laptop priced near 250 euros. I will instruct the Amazon store to wrap it as a gift. It will be sent directly from Amazon store, does the recipient pay anything to pick-up this item? Duties, taxes, etc..? Reason for asking: I am not a France citizen so I do not know the rules! Thank you.

If the goods are shipped from within the EU (Luxembourg is a member state) then there are no duties or additional VAT due. Your citizenship does not matter. All that matters is the origin and destination of the shipment.
Answer 2 :
From what you have described there would be no cost to the recipient at point of pick up.

My laptop shuts down randomly when I travel abroad?
My laptop shuts down randomly when I travel abroad?
I'm in France with an American laptop and it shuts down at random times (around an hour or so), no warning or anything. Just turns off - a problem I never had in the States. I'm not supposed to have to use a converter because it's rated for 120/240 V. I live in an older building (1800's built) and maybe it's not good for surge protection or something? Also my sister's laptop battery which we just bought last Christmas is completely dead. Could it be the same kind of problem?
Other - France - 1 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
You're not saying what laptop you have or the make of the battery/power system so this is only a generic answer: You might need to buy a converter, France is 220-240 V at 50 Hz, check what Hz is your computer. The age of the building should not have anything to do with it as long as the electricity system is regularly updated (I lived in a 1600's building without a hitch or a computer hiccup for years). If you have an old system you might want to buy a surge protector, small variations can make your computer shut down or burn out your battery. As well, the quality of your power system / battery can be the source of the problem, a cheap one will not be able to handle the difference and will get your computer to shut down or burn out your battery.

I will be in Europe (France) next fall and will want to be able to connect my laptop to the televisions there (i assume they are PAL video format) so I can watch my videos on my laptop. I am not aware of the connections that those tvs use, so I was wondering if I could use a cable such as (PRESS PLAY): http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/videoware/pro604.swf Will i be able to use that cable to connect my laptop to the televisions in france? Do those tvs have the red, white, and yellow input connections? Thank you so much for your time! -Isaac

Is there anyway to watch american tv in france?
is there anyway to watch american tv in france?
I'm going away for a while we have our own apartment in the south of france and i was wondering if there was anyway i could watch so you think you can dance and the office and bones etc. so i was just wondering if there was a way to do it, i'm going to have my laptop but i would rather watch on the big tv and i dont want to have to wait like 2 weeks for the episodes to go online on fox.com

Answer 1 :
You can get cable channel where they will have American movies and tv shows, usually available in English (vm). The basic channels RARELY have English language movies on. Or if you have a dvd player with a usb port you can take a USB memory key, download on your laptop and watch on the tv. There are sites that usually put the shows online the next day (or two, with the time difference). My favorite is ch131.com.
Answer 2 :
You will not be able to see the same kind of regular American programmes that you usually watch in the USA on a big TV when they are being broadcast unless your appartment has cable or satellite network and the chains, of which there are only two, on which they are broadcast have a licence to use satellites/ cables. Also remember there are several hours difference between America and France and whilst one has access to other countries through satellites, the programmes one can get from having a satellite dish are mostly European or from Arab countries.
Answer 3 :
Nope. American shows like what you mentioned are not broadcast all over the world. You just have to wait or watch them when you can get them on streaming....
Answer 4 :
Hi, As far as I know, none of the big american TV channels (ABC, CBS, FOX) are broadcasted on popular french satelite TV bundle... The only US TV channels we have are news channels (CNN, ...) or sports (some UK channels broadcast some ESPN events live such as NFL, NHL,...) The only way for french people to follow popular US shows without having to wait one year is to illegaly download it... sad but true... PS : before viewing an episode on Fox.com, the website check that you are connected from the USA... so it will probably not work here...
Answer 5 :
try freeetv.com (that's with the letter e three times)

Please im not from USA im from France and im going to Vegas next week and my parents live in Utah and they will send my new laptop to my hotel in vegas but they live in Utah and they want me to send the money of the shipping to them please i will really apreciate your help

Answer 1 :
Call the hotel you are staying at and ask them how you can have it best mailed there. I would get a signature confirmation as it's worth the extra few bucks. The hotels in vegas are very nice and will give you advice on how and where to mail it. Just call and ask for their help. I missed part of your question earlier. Sorry. You have to call either FedEX,UPS {United Parcel Service} or USPS{United States Postal Service} You better get a signature confirmation receipt and insurance! This way if lost you will get paid and if it was signed for you will know who is responsible at the hotel!

How do I change Vista base language ?
I bought a laptop while in France, thinking that like in other countries I would be able to choose language at startup. However, its all in french ! How can I change it ? @ deusxechelon : Seems you are right. Found it on Windows page. Ha, funny to dl it after buying legit. Oh well ! :) Nope.. I dont have other languages. Just doesnt work. Nothing else is in that list. Oh well, must be my version. Or maybe I can download a language pack !

Answer 1 :
Warez. Yum. You cant. Simply put. However you can download the english language pack, it will change most but not all of the text into english.
Answer 2 :
Go to the start button, then it'll be third up from the power and padlock button. That'll be your control panel. Then a new window pops up. Look for the world with a clock in front of it. That'll be the clock, language, and region. Then there should be two options there...choose the second one, which will look like the world with the clock. A new window will pop up. the first thing you'll see is a the current format which would be in French (France). You can drop that down and you should see English (United States) a few languages up. Also go to the last tab in that window, which will be administrative, and there should be a button there and you can change the language in there as well. Restart your computer.

Moving to France with computer?
My friend is moving from the US to France for work. He has a desktop computer with a monitor that doubles as a TV. You can connect the monitor to a cable jack and switch between the computer and TV. His question is if he brings his desktop to France, can he still use the TV feature in his monitor or is his monitor the wrong kind? Also will he be able to use his desktop? He doesn't have a laptop... Thanks!

US and France use different TV systems, so I doubt the TV tuner will work. Monitor + PC will work together provided your friend gets a transformer. The transformer needs to be rated to support the max wattage of PC+Monitor.

Hi Power : Current is 220v / AC / 50hz. Many laptops can handle all varieties of power supply - check in the manual. If yours can't, you may well be able to just change the transformer. Internet : The phone plugs are different. A specialist shop will be able to sort out the plugs when you arrive. You shouldn't bring any food because french foods are really good, maybe a little snack for the flight, the plane also provides food. Depend on the air company, some 50 lbs max some even up to 70 lbs, you can ask the air company. And bring a dictionary if you don't know any french. A map and a travel guide will be useful. Have a good trip.

How do I get wireless connection in France for my laptop? I know this is a retarded question. I am just trying to figure out the best way to connect on my laptop. I don't want to mess finding internet hot spots because i'll be out of the city most of the time(Paris). Is there a way to get wireless internet from like at&t without worrying about hot spots and where you can just connect anywhere? Didn't quite understand. So even if you get an internet card, it won't help? so your saying just get a french connection when i am there?

Dude... AT&T is an american company. So unless you get a French subscription to 3G data, there's no way you're going to get wireless out of the blue. Your best bet is to be in a large enough town. Hopefully some people will have unsecured wireless networks, on which you'll be able to connect. And Paris has plenty of free hotspots. But if you're not staying there.

How to change my laptop's French OS to English OS?
I got a laptop gifted by a brother of mine in France. The problem being it's OS, it is in French...can neone gimme a way to change it to English??

Answer 1 :
There is a way by replacing some libraries and some programs, but It's something you don't want to get into, believe me. The best option is to reinstall the OS. It is possible to keep installed programs and saved files, but a backup is highly recommended. Or... this could be a good motive to learn french.
Answer 2 :
If your OS is Microsoft windows and you can understand French then proceed thru the steps:(idon know french so in english) 1.click "start" 2.click "settings" 3.click "control panel" 4 click "Date, time ,language and regional options" 5.click "Language and Regional options" 6.in Language and Regional options dialog box click "language" tab then select your desired language 7.click "Apply" buttun 8.click "ok" if you cann't understand french, then you can ask your frierd to help you to change the language of your OS. If he is not available then you have to install a new clean copy of your OS.During the installation period you will see various steps. Keep attention to those steps. At somepoint setup will ask you to select your date, time, timezone.language and other preferences. Then you can select your desired language (which is English (United States) ) by default and setup will configure your OS to your selected language.

Using laptop abroad - internet access?
Using laptop abroad - internet access?
In December I took my (new) Dell laptop to France. I only planned to use it for watching DVDs etc, but when I switched it on first time, it connected to the Internet, having asked me if I wanted to search for available wireless networks. So, to my surprise, I was able to e-mail, listen to BBC radio, and surf to my hearts content for the whole fortnight - and my house in France doesn't even have a phoneline! I'm new to wireless, but I assume I was somehow linked to a nearby internet connection - possibly the local Tourist Info Office(?). Having returned there 2 weeks ago, this time the connection was unavailable. Does this simply mean a firewall or similar has been installed, and I was just very lucky first time, or is there something I should be doing to re-establish the link - indeed, is it something that I shouldn't be trying to do anyway? If it's not repeatable, is there any sort of wireless internet service that i can subscribe to when there, without putting in a phoneline? Thanks

How many watts in a voltage converter
How many watts in a voltage converter do I need to run an all-in-one Dell printer in France?
Going to spend one year there and taking my laptop and my printer. Thanks for your help.

Answer 1 :
Hi Michelle, It should be on your printer. Look right above the the electrical cord, it will say 32w, 16w, 12w or similar. So 100 watts should be more than sufficient, since you wont use all 3 application at the same time. Loads of fun in France!

Hi Michelle, It should be on your printer. Look right above the the electrical cord, it will say 32w, 16w, 12w or similar. So 100 watts should be more than sufficient, since you wont use all 3 application at the same time. Loads of fun in France!

do i need some kind of plan for my laptop to use wifi in europe?
do i need some kind of plan for my laptop to use wifi in europe?
I'm going to Ireland, UK and France next month...and someone was mentioning data plans for your LAPTOP...do i really need that? In my books it said that there are plenty of wifi spots in cafes and hostels and stuff like that in europe...can't i just connect to those providers? Or do i need some kind of international internet plan? Couldn't reach anyone who could answer me on this.

Answer 1 :
You don't need a data plan on your laptop to connect to free public WiFi in EU. If you were going to try to use your own internet connection through Xfire or some other wireless company, then you would need one.

Laptops and internet service in France.
Laptops and internet service in France?
Well I live in California and I was wondering if I took my laptop with me to France, would it be possible that I will be able to get a connection from, perhaps, a local cafe? Or even in someone's home if they have internet service? Something like getting service in a Starbucks. I really hope that its possible that I would be able to get connection, but if I dont I'll understand because the whole French internet connection thing might be different than in the US. Anybody has any experiences with an issue like this?

What type of converter/adaptor plug kit do I need for a laptop computer in France
What type of converter/adaptor plug kit do I need for a laptop computer in France?
I'm wanting to bring my laptop on my trip to Paris France and I'm a little confused about the Converter/Adaptor Plug Kit for overseas travel. The ones I see are a 1600 watt converter and says good for small appliances. Will these work for a laptop (it's a gateway tablet laptop) or do I need some thing else, and if I need some thing else where do I find it??? Thanks all for your help!!!!!

Answer 1 :
You only need an adapter for a laptop. Your laptop will automatically convert and if you use a converter in addition your laptop will probably fry. My cousin attempted to use a converter with her laptop and it started smoking. I studied abroad over there for a semester and everyone in my group just used the adapter and we were fine. You just need a western EU adapter for France because most of Europe uses the same thing now. Unless you have a mac. They sell special adapter's on their website for those computers. If you plan on using any other plug-in item, bring the converter.
Answer 2 :
You'll only need a "Type E" French 2-pin electrical adapter plug. Most travel adapters for use in Europe should be able to handle French sockets. The laptop's A/C adapter should do the rest, so there's no need for a special converter. To be on the safe side, check if the adapter's input range is up to 220/240V (usually printed on a sticker on the adapter).

Answer 1 :
If he doesn't have a landline but have phone wall plugs, he can ask for an ISP to build him his line. It might get him 2-3 months to get the internet. After that, he'll be having the maximum speed available in his area (this can go from dial-up to 100 Mbps) and, most of the time, this costs 29,99€/month for an unlimited usage. With that, he has the modem that is free to rent and he can call any landline in many destinations for free. Depending on his location, he can have ADSL TV. (All for 29,99/month, no extra charge) Here is the website of one of the main ISPs : http://www.free.fr/adsl/index.html If you prefer to have a little 3G stick for your computer, you should contact a mobile carrier. There are many option with these sticks, depending on what carrier you use and how much data. With one of the main French carrier (SFR), this costs 39;99/month for unlimited usage. There's also an offer with 5 hours of internet during the week and unlimited internet during the week-end for 14,99. Here is the website : http://www.sfr.fr/internet-mobile/offres-internet-mobile-cle-internet-3g/les-offres-internet-3g-?vue=00235e You also got other companies. For ADSL Internet : Bouygues Telecom, Orange, SFR, Free. For 3G Stick Internet : Bouygues Telecom, Orange, SFR.

Answer 1 :
If you're looking for someone to help your mother out, the last thing I'd do is to call someone a "geek". You should learn to be more polite when asking for assistance.
Answer 2 :
If she's never been on the internet before, there are many dangers to which she'll need to be educated. If you get a low cost Mac for her, like a Mac Mini, it will help spare her from most of the viruses out there and spyware as well. http://www.apple.com/fr/ Post note: Carelia, us geeks take pride in that name. ;)
Answer 3 :
You seem to know how to do most of it. Why don't you teach your mom?
Answer 4 :
Hi if she is on the West side of South France, you should post the message here : http://the-languedoc-page.com/forum It is a local forum read by expats. Peter
