Answer 3 :
Well, maybe its something about the connection or the disk. It could be scratched. It also could be something to do with your laptop. Maybe compatibility issues or something. Try it out on a different computer or maybe when your on holidays go on the internet and try it there. It might be due to the fact that you're living in France. Hope I helped!!!! Let me know how it went.

What adapters do I need for Europe?
What adapters do I need for Europe?
I am going to Europe for almost 3 weeks, and it is vital that I have a way to plug in my laptop, Canon EOS Rebel T1i battery charger, and phone charger. I will be in London, France and Italy. Which adapters do I need to buy? Specifics would be great! I'm not so great with technology.... thanks!

Answer 1 :
110 to 220 V
Answer 2 :
You can buy them in the airport - adapters which can be turned round and used for all european countries!
Answer 3 :
don't buy them at the airport! they'll charge you twice as much! buy one in america before you leave. i think my dad bought mine at best buy!
Answer 4 :
Something like this would work: http://www.topmic.com/141-0703.html Helps convert power to the North American standards and it is an adapter so you don't need to buy an adapter and converter. It works all over the world, just swap the head. Its nice cause you just plug that into the wall then plug your device in. Instead of plugging in the adapter then converter then your device. Best of luck.

Changed the region on the dvd player, so did my brother
dell laptop...changed the region on the dvd player, so did my brother - now it's blocked. HELP?
so it started off on the american region..my brother's living in france and studied in england so i guess he must have changed a few times too. i'm studying in ireland and now i can't play american dvds. is there any way i can reverse this? thanks! - if at all possible i'd like to fix it without having to buy something else to fix it.
Laptops & Notebooks - 2 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Try updating the driver.
Answer 2 :
DVD players generally have a limit of 4 changes of region, after which they are locked into the last mode that was chosen, with no chance of removing this that I know of. The best chance you have in my view is to get a new dvd player and always use it for wholesome purposes. This can perhaps bypass the other setting as it is a fresh player and should come with its own region changes.

Do those USB "dongles" give an internet connection when on a plane?
Hey guys, Allow me to get right to the point: I am going to France next year, by plane, and was wondering if a dongle would still allow me to have internet activity up there in the sky. I am asking this because I am thinking about taking a laptop with me so I can boast to my friends, haha. Thanks in advance!

Answer 1 :
depends on your plane. the generic rule is no, but some planes now have cell receivers inside the plane and they may be able to handle the data. in most places its illegal to even try and if the plane does not have the devices installed then once airborn it would not work anyways.

What should i bring on my carry on?
What should i bring on my carry on?
I'm heading to south africa and in total will be on the plane for 20 hours and will have a 8 hour overlay in france. what should i bring? can i bring my laptop and if i can, can i bring the power cord on board?
Packing & Preparation - 4 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
anything u want!!!!
Answer 2 :
you can bring the power cord but you wont be able to plug it in. The airline will most likely provide headphones, a face mask, a blanket, and a toothbrush. Make sure to bring a neck pillow because regular pillows just don't cut on a flight that long. also bring an extra pair of clothes (just in case your flight gets cancled and the airline reschedules)
Answer 3 :
You can bring your laptop with you and the power cord but i have never been on a plane that had places where you could plug it in though, but in the airports they have the plug ins. You might want to bring a book/ magazine and crossword puzzles and things like that so you have something to do. Bring a change of clothes in case you spill something on your self of your plane gets delayed or canceled. Also bring deodorant in your carry on bag. ( i made a mistake once and didn't my flight ended up getting delayed for hours and the airport was sold out, i went to the hotel across the street and they only had one left and it was mens and im a girl but i had to buy it and wear it lol), I'd bring a tooth brush and a small tube of toothpaste. If you have an ipod or mp3 player bring that too. umm maybe a neck pillow to rest with. and some money or credit card! i think thats everything!!!
Answer 4 :
The first step is to check the TSA website for a list of prohibited and restricted items to insure that you do not pack anything that will be confiscated. Not only is this a headache for you but it could cause problems in clearing security at the airport. Remember that liquids, gels, and pastes are restricted to containers of 3oz (100ml) or less and must all fit in a single, one quart size, closed zip lock type bag. In general you are allowed to bring one carry-on bag and one personal item which could be a laptop, purse, camera case, or something similar. You can bring your laptop on the plane and use it as long as any transmission functions such as wireless internet are disabled. You will not however, be able to plug it in so you would have to rely on the power in your battery for as long as it lasts. As for other items I would suggest the following from personal experience: Change of clothing (or two if you can fit them in) Toiletries including toothpaste, mouthwash, lotion, deodorant, comb, toothbrush, and any medication you require (medication is exempt from the size restrictions however it must be declared and in the original container) Good book(s), IPOD or similar, perhaps some puzzle books. A neck pillow as mentioned previously is a good idea on these long flights.

You will need to buy a special adapter for your charger as they use 240V and we use 110V. They probably have free WIFI in internet cafes and the like just like here. If you stay in a hotel, they may offer free internet as well.

laptop & American outlets. totally confused!?
HELP! laptop & American outlets. totally confused!?
I'm thinking about buying a macbook. However, I live in France but am moving to the United States in a few months. The outlets here are different from American outlets so I'm afraid that if I buy a computer in France, it will be damaged too quickly because of the different power that France uses. I will for sure need to get a converter but my question is does that damage goods prematurely? Thanks in advance for your help!
Laptops & Notebooks - 2 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Just buy a power adapter for the US when you get here. If you use the round 2-prong 220v Euro plug it won't fit in an American power outlet anyway. The official Apple adapter is $79 from Apple. Stay away from the cheap clones.
Answer 2 :
There are voltage converters that you can purchase at any electronics store. Make sure you get a voltage converter and not just the outlet converter. The way you can tell is that voltage converters are bigger and bulky, outlet converters are light and small.

What hardware to use to extend WIFI signal?
What hardware to use to extend WIFI signal?
In our University, every student is authorized to access the WIFI signal of the school. My problem is, the only way that I could connect to the WIFI is if I'm in the University WIFI hotspots. Therefore, I can not access it in my room which is just about 400meters from a hotspot. When I'm in my room and try to search for a signal, my laptop could detect it but cannot connect to it. I am guessing that probably the signal is extremely low that's why I can't connect. I am wondering if its possible to extend the range of my University's WIFI signal so that it could reach my room. I'm looking for a device that could pick-up signals from a distance. I've heard of the device called "cantenna" but its not available here in France. Are there other mainstream products available to do this? If so, how does it work? Thank you very much!

Answer 1 :
?????
Answer 2 :
What you need a is called a "Repeater" .Its a device used to repeat the signal to throw it a further distance. this should help: "A recent review of the repeating function of the D-Link DWL-900AP+ access point identifies a range increase of 160%. In the review, the original signal was lost at about 55feet from the router/access point. With the placement of a DWL-900AP+ set to repeater mode at the site of the original signal loss, the signal strength was still around 72% at 140 feet. The repeater provides the extra kick in situations where you need to reach remote users" for more on this go to: http://www.wi-fiplanet.com/tutorials/article.php/1571601

How can I set up DVD region 0 on Window Media Player, Windows 7?

DVD players can have the region changed 5 times. If you want an unlocked DVD you'll have to build your own (or, rather, write your own firmware)(. It's not legal to sell one, so no one will. (You could always buy another drive and change its region.)
Answer 2 :
I find Pavtube intuitive and easy to use. Most importantly, up to now, I was able to open, copy, and watch every Blu-ray and DVD, irrespectively whether the Blu-Ray DVDs was bought in Europe, Japan, or USA (i.e. all the three zones). Great software. Does what it claims. http://www.pavtube.com/dvd_ripper/
Answer 3 :
try Passkey, make your dvdplayer region free

Do they show American Football in Europe?
Do they show American Football in Europe?
I might be studying abroad in either German, France, Russia, or the UK. I like me my football. Ive been a Dallas Cowboys fan for as long as I can remember. Do they have channels over there? Or am I going to have to record the games here in the states and watch them on my laptop?
Football (American) - 8 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Probably on ESPN.
Answer 2 :
I know in the you UK they show games on skysports which is a network broadcasted in the UK and Ireland. I am not sure about the other places you listed but you could always watch them on your laptop
Answer 3 :
I don't think so but they should. People from other countries constantly ask where they can watch games live online for free, so I'd say they don't. UK might, Germany and Russia I highly doubt, France is very unlikely too.
Answer 4 :
not on network TV but I'm sure they have it on special cable channels. Sky Sports does the broadcasting for UK but I'm not sure about Germany, France, or Russia but I'm confident you could probably find it somewhere.
Answer 5 :
I lived in London for 3 months and we went to a local sports pub to watch the NFL games on SkySports. They generally only have one game on every sunday because the first game doesnt start until 6pm local time. There's also an option I fund through yahoo! that you can purchase the rights to watch one team live for a whole season for like $60, or you can always find a website that broadcasts the games online for free
Answer 6 :
DirecTV has the NFL contract AND a special package that is available in Europe during the season, As you will see at their link below, it is not available now and you will have to check back closer to the start of the season. http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/global/contentPageNR.jsp?assetId=3260001
Answer 7 :
Sure.
Answer 8 :
I've seen football in some places, but not here where I live in Italy. I can see the games over the internet through NFL.com, but not on television. At various times, I have watched a game on TV from a hotel room in Amsterdam and Lund, Sweden. If you're out of the US, you can get the games here: https://gamepass.nfl.com/nflgp/secure/registerform It's not free, but it does give you coverage of all the games.

What are my rights/options with a failed laptop repair?
What are my rights/options with a failed laptop repair?
I have quite a long tale here which seems to be getting more and more complicated by the day. At the start of the year I rather excitedly purchased myself a modbook (http://www.axiotron.com/index.php?id=modbook) from the UKs only supplier. Now because this is an adapted macbook it is not covered by the apple warranty, which shouldn't be an issue because computer warehouse at the time were offering me their own years warranty. Fast forward two months and the screen went very dark all of a sudden, on closer inspection it would appear the back light had failed (which is apparently not uncommon). Not too much of a problem I thought, I'll just get in touch with computer warehouse and get them to fix it on warranty. Unfortunately it did seem to be quite a problem as when I phoned up computer warehouse I found out that they had gone into liquidation a month earlier leaving me with a useless warranty. Now it's about 8 months later and I have tried Axiotron the company that makes the modbook but they have no contact details that I can find and only deal through international suppliers. I have spoken to two such suppliers both in France and Germany in an attempt to get someone to look at my machine but all to no avail. Finally this week I gave up and decided to take it to an independent mac repairer who said he'd take a look at it but couldn't promise me anything, although thought he may be able to fix it. Of course as soon as he opens it any notion of warranty via Axiotron themselves will be gone completely (but as they're staying silent that's probably irrelevant). Finally yesterday I had a response from him telling me it wasn't the backlight that was the problem but that it's a faulty logic board, so therefore going to be a lot more expensive to repair (as if the original bill wasn't going to be enough). Now his main reasoning for this was that when he plugs an external monitor in via the dvi port he gets nothing. To which I take issue because for the last 8 months I have been using the modbook with a Wacom Cintiq 12wx attached, which is effectively an external screen connected via the dvi port. I was even using it right up until the morning I dropped it off with the repairer. I really am at the end of my tether now and am trying to weigh up my options, what he's effectively telling me is wrong with my machine I know for a fact wasn't an issue when I handed it over to him. As far as I can work out I may just have to pick up the laptop back off him and take it else where but am conscious of the fact it may not be in the same condition as when I dropped it off and may cost me more in the long run. Any thoughts on whether I should just cut my losses and pick it up or can I/should I push the issue further knowing full well that the fault he's pointing out wasn't a problem before I handed it to him?

Can I use the power cable to my laptop AC in countries with 240V?
Can I use the power cable to my laptop AC in countries with 240V?
It never occurred to me that the power cable -- the one connected from the outlet to the laptop's AC brick -- is rated at "125V - 7A". Does that mean it won't be able to handle the 240V in some countries? The brick itself is rated 100V - 240V, so it can be used internationally. In fact, I spent a year in France, where I used my Dell Inspiron just fine (with a prong adapter so it'll fit into the socket). The reason why I'm paying attention to the power cable is because the cable for my Nikon D80 battery charger has a "US" sticker on it. The charger itself can handle 240V, but does this mean the cable cannot? I think Dee's answer is the closest. My question is about the AC adapter/brick itself. I know many devices have international adapters, so I don't need a voltage converter (even though I have one). I'm asking about the cable that connects to the laptop adapter. It's detachable. It's the same one used for my Nikon DSLR camera battery charger, too. I was surprised to see a "US" sticker on it, and after a closer look, it says "125V". But I know for a fact I used my old Dell Inspiron AC adapter AND the cable in France (240V). Any more insights? Thanks!

Answer 1 :
The thinner the cables are, the less voltage they can handle. So since cell phone charger cables are significantly smaller than laptop cables, the cell phone charger cables could heat up and actually melt the insulation.
Answer 2 :
usually most all computers made within the last 5 years automatically work overseas. However, don't assume that. I would think because it has a sticker.... it means that it may only take 125V so don't push it. To be safe just pick up a converter at the store. Walmart has them for about 10 dollars or less. Make sure you read the package to find out if it does change the voltage!!!
Answer 3 :
read the stuff on the adapter. if it says 120-240 then you can use internationally. if not you CAN'T use it. you have to get a transformer then which will convert electric to 120.
Answer 4 :
You will need to purchase an Adapter. Also you will need to check the power supply on your system and make sure it can handle the voltage difference. Most can, but all brands and models differ, and that could be a real issue. Be sure to check you users guide for this info (if no user guide, then go to manufacturers web site).
Answer 5 :
If the power cord has a converter connected to it, then you can use it up to the voltage listed on the box. Yes, you will need an adapter though. If you are uncertain you could also call the maker of your laptop, or an electronics store.

Can I watch the OSU-USC football game while I'm in France?
I'm a student at Ohio State, and--as you can probably guess--I'm a huge buckeyes fan. Unfortunately my sister went and got herself a job in France this year, and I am going to help her move in. Of course the way things work out, my last night in France will be September 12t, the day of the OSU-USC game. Is there anyway I can watch the game on my laptop using the hotel room's internet while I'm there? I'm not sure how ESPN 360 works, or if that would even be an option, if it is can someone explain that to me? or if you have any other suggestions I would love to hear them. Thanks

Would it be worth buying a laptop to travel in Europe or just use their internet cafes.
Would it be worth buying a laptop to travel in Europe or just use their internet cafes?
So Im travelling to Europe this July. Im going to: ENGLAND ~ BELGIUM ~ HOLLAND ~ GERMANY ~ CZECH REPUBLIC ~ SLOVAKIA ~ HUNGARY ~ AUSTRIA ~ ITALY ~ SWITZERLAND ~ FRANCE I'll be staying in 4-5 star hotels that are centrally located in the city. Should I buy a laptop for my travels or just make do with internet cafes? Is it easy to find in Europe?

Answer 1 :
It will be cheaper to use internet cafes
Answer 2 :
Get a notebook not to heavy
Answer 3 :
i would rather buy a laptop cuz if u just do cafes, then ull have to wait for people to use them. and if u hav ur own laptop, u hav better privacy than using the cafes!
Answer 4 :
i think use their cafes but yes your own laptap give u more freedom thin is u mite have prob in conecting and stuff or mite even losss it so better to use cafe if u not sure abt connection and takin care u have to keep cheking it wil disturb your fun <at that wat happed to me>
Answer 5 :
Most 4-5 star hotels provide free internet access, so it would be a money and time saver to have your own laptop. I travel with mine, and I enjoy the freedom and access it afforded--especially if it was a boring day in the hotel. Be sure to check if your laptop is dual voltage. If it isn't, you'll have to use a voltage converter. Also you'll need the adapter plugs for the various countries.
Answer 6 :
Use internet cafés instead of the laptop. Wireless connection pricing is just incredibly high here in Europe right now!!
Answer 7 :
I would recommend using the internet cafes. Reason being each country has different electrical voltages and each country has a different type of plug. So if you are traveling to the UK for example, the UK standard voltage is 220 with a completely different plug than the US. This means 220 volts will "fry" your US computer if you do not have a plug that also regulates the voltage. Even if you have several different plug adapters that regulate voltage you still run the risk of power surges or other damage to your laptop. Granted internet cafes can be expensive it does not beat having to pay several hundred dollars to replace a laptop. My advice would be unless you need your laptop for work then you are better off using internet cafes.
Answer 8 :
You're travelling to Europe and you're worried about having a laptop with you? Are you so blase about Europe that you'd rather be spending your time online instead of being engaged with the reality around you? If that's the case, save your money and stay home and watch 'Lonely Planet', or 'Rick Steves' on tv. Come on. If you need an occasional internet fix just go to a cafe and be done with it. Why lug an an extra piece of luggage around with you?
Answer 9 :
You can find lots of places to go on line here without having to lug a laptop around with you on the trip. It is true that a lot of hotels have internet connectivity, but don't count on it being free. There are a few places like the hotel Verona that have free internet, but it can be pretty expensive in other places. The hotel I'm in right now charges 15 euro for a 24 hour period. their hourly rate is much more that the internet cafe just down the street. The hotel I was in the weekend before last charged even more. How much time do you expect to spend on line anyway? The only reason I am is because I needed to sit for a few minutes with a coffee since I've been walking all day.
Answer 10 :
Definitely forget about the laptop!! a) You'll have to carry the extra luggage, mostly as hand luggage. This means you have to go through annoying security checks as well, and you'll always keep an extra eye on it. I once had a laptop with me to London and it got stolen within the first hour at a Burger King in the 30 seconds that we left unattanded. b) With laptops many hotels charge high rates for internet access- just like they charge for the minibar. c) You can easily find internet cafes around. Most give an hourly access for 1-2 € and you can use this many times within a week till you consume this 1 hour. d) You don't even have a laptop which means you don't need it in your daily life. So why bother !?
Answer 11 :
Why would you need a computer while you're travelling? Unless you plan on doing business or uploading thousands of photos, don't consider dragging something like that around. There is internet everywhere. EDIT*-- someone said it would be a 'money saver'?!! How is it a money saver to BUY a laptop in order to save a few Euros a week in internet cafe fees?
Answer 12 :
You should use the internet cafes but I don't recommend looking at porn though lol.

Yes, 100% sure. Your Laptop have all the ability to play High configuration Games.................... I'm hardware Engineer
Answer 2 :
Yes perfectly. Although you could save a bit of money by going for the i5 rather than i7 processor and it won't affect performance too much. The most important thing is the graphics card.
Answer 3 :
Yeah that'll run beautifully.
Answer 4 :
Your system is just a little bit slower than my system, and I can only guess but I think it will run ok. Keep in mind programs that are running in the back ground slow it up a little too. I just beat my first GTA 4 yesterday, and the link below helps you prepare for every mission. Some are very easy, and some are extremely hard. One mission you have to kill a guy on a big cargo ship. You have to kill around 150 guards to get to the one you have to kill. It takes a while to get use to driving the cars in this game also, and bikes. If you are familiar with GTA SA you have 50 oysters, Horseshoes, 50 snap shots, and 100 tags to do, but in GTA 4 you have 200 "flyingrats" to kill. They are pidgins. Cheats are all done via a cell phone that you have to dial once then it is in the phones memory under cheats. It is a good, fun game. I hope you enjoy it as I do. I have GTA 3, GTA SA, and GTA 4 that play on my computer.

Hi so I know it's Christmas, but I really didn't get too much, and I really didn't want much anyway so it's totally fine with me (you see, I'm going to France in the spring with my school so I want spend money there plus the trip itself costs about $3,300). So I was for some reason watching HSN today for about 5 minutes, and that happens to be when they are showing a wonderful Gateway laptop for $670.90. It is especially amazing because it will support The Sims 3, the main reason I want this laptop. Regular HSN price is $799.99. and retail is about $1200.00. So I really want to buy this laptop, but I don't currently have a job. I had one in the summer and have about $350 saved from then, and plan to get a job in March when I have my license. So here's what I want to do. Ask my mom to get me the laptop - I will pay her $300. (I need a little bit of money on me, and I think I'll get about $70 from relatives for Christmas). Then, when I get my job, I will pay off the rest of it. If you were a mom, would you go for this? I mean in the end I really just want this good deal on a great laptop with great system specs. I just need this "loan" from my mom (And truly, I am not cheap in any way and will literally WANT to pay it back, plus I could see what it's like to be in a situation like that and such". So what do you think. This deal ends in less than 3 hours! Do you really think it's a ripoff? My mom is also partial to Gateway laptops (they have customer service in the U.S.). Also she'd be happy to get Sims off the desktop... I would rather pay the price for a really good laptop, but thanks for the input. And yeah, I do a lot of chores (more than any of my siblings - probably more than all them combined and I have 3). Good idea though. HSN sold out of the laptop... :(

That is a ripoff. If all you want it for is to play sims on and goof off online, go to walmart and get one for 400 dollars.
Answer 2 :
I would ask her if you could pay her back out work it off.
Answer 3 :
well i'm not a mom but i think once u really convince her and show her u want it to study with she might just buy it oh.. n let her see that u are really willing to add money to help buy it . talk to her she might understand!
Answer 4 :
My acer laptop supports Sims 3 and was only $600, you would be far better off going to a reputable office store and asking about different models there. You can get what you want for less than that 'great deal' laptop. Between the $550 and $850 price marks there isn't really that much difference. A personal word of advice would be to go with a SMALLER screen size than you think you'll want- my biggest peeve with mine is the size- I went from a 9 inch netbook to a 15.6 inch laptop because the laptop had a DVD drive. I found the portability of the netbook to be a FAR bigger advantage than the DVD drive which I rarely use.

What should I bring on My 10 day trip to France?
What should I bring on My 10 day trip to France?
I need a list of things that I should bring in my carry-on. So far I have: •Earplugs •Sleep mask •iPod •Magazines •Paperback books •Face wash •Moisturizer •Toner •Portable DVD player •Dry shampoo spray •Detangle spray •Chap stick •Pain relief pills •Laptop •Neck pillow •Blanket •Gum •Over the counter chewing gum for airplanes? •DVDs •Phone •Camera •Pashmina (?) •Travel wallet •Glasses •Sunglasses •Contact case •Cosmetic kit, including liquids in a quart-sized plastic bag •Comb and brush •Vitamins Anything I am missing? Am I allowed to bring food of my own? I don't think I will like the airplane food. I am a vegetarian. Also, France doesn't have peanut butter so am I allowed to bring peanut butter in my suitcase? I will probably bring a few jars. Does my purse count as one of my carry ons and how many carry ons can I have? I don't want to look like a tourist when I go so what outfits should I bring? I will be going there next summer. I will probably be walking a lot! solutions? maybe dr scholls foot padding in my nice shoes? what do people in france wear in the summer? how can I save money on this trip? Btw, I am a girl. In case you needed that for the list. also, what should I bring to france in general? I am not sure of the exact length of the flight but I am sure that it will be a long one. Also, any suggestions of how to get prepared/inspired for the trip? I was thinking mary kate and ashley's passport to paris. I know, its kiddy but the movies are cute in a cheesy way! In case I wasn't clear enough before, I NEED the peaunut butter. this is one of the big sources of protein for me and from what I have noticed, most of the famous french dishes are not vegetarian. Besides not eating meat, I am just a picky eater in general. Though I may try to broaden my horizons in Paris and try foods I wouldn't normally eat, I will still probably not like them. Unfortunately, this is just what usually happens. I WISH I wasn't a picky eater, but thats just the way I am. The list of items above is just for the plane ride! I know that I will need money, okay?

Wow trip to Paris sounds exciting - I went last year. First things first, don't bring stuff you don't currently use such as dry shampoo, ear plugs, sleeping mask etc. Ear plugs barely help on a plane. I know this sounds daft, but dress how you normally dress and they won't realise you are a tourist. Make sure to bring something conservative for going in the lovely old churches. They'll jnow you're a tourist if you wear the Paris t-shirts or stumble around with a big map. The BEST thing I did before going to Paris was order all the transport passes and cultural/museum/exhibit passes. This way you jump the long queues everywhere (only place you couldn't jump the line was up the tower of notre dame). Also meant I didn't have to queue to buy the passes in France from someone who doesn't speak English and stepped right off the plane, flashed my train tickets and zoomed into Gare du Nord whilst everyone else was trying to buy tickets. You can buy all these passes online -heaps of places sell them. Also you are taking waaaay too much on board - ditch thr moisturiser, toner, detangle spray, neck pillow, blanket from your list, you don't need detangle spray on a plane! :-P Blanket and pillow you get on board. Ditto you don't need a dvd player and dvds - you have your own entertainment system in the seat. Take one book, not heaps plus magazines. You're not going to Paris to read so you're not gonna get through several mags and books in 10 days. Ditch the several jars of peanut butter too - you're there for 10 days, just go without it and buy french food!!!
Answer 2 :
wow! that would be a nice trip. dont bring your blanket, your hotel will provide that. bring only your camera, phone, cash (the most important thing). dvds & magazines, what for? neck pillow? for sure you can only use that in the plane.. bring lite stuffs!

Do I need to buy a power adapter for my appliances when going to another country?
Do I need to buy a power adapter for my appliances when going to another country?
I am considering going to Cuzco, Peru this summer, and last summer when I went to France none of my small appliances (hair straightener, laptop etc.) worked. Of course my more "natural" French friends thought it was very funny that I couldn't straighten my hair, but I would like to be able to use my appliances this trip. So what do I have to do? Where do American appliances work? Will I have to buy an adapter? And if so, what kind? Thanks!!

Here are the PCs stats: XPS M1730 CORE 2 DUO T8300 2.40GHz,800,3M Hard Drive: 320GB Free Fall Sensor (7200RPM) 4 Go (2x2Go) 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM 17.0" UltraSharp Widescreen WUXGA (1920x1200) TFT Display with TrueLife with 2.0MP Web camera DUAL SLI 512MB nVidia GeForce 9800 GT Will this run wow perfectly on max settings with 70 fps +? And do any of you know if I can run crysis on it. Thanks for the help

Answer 1 :
you will be able to run crysis..crysis has a lot of graphics settings so play around with them so you get a nice visual/performance mix. I would say medium to high. WoW it should do fine.
Answer 2 :
WoW will run very well on that computer. It will run Crysis at mid-high settings fairly well, too.

Using my laptop in Europe.?
Using my laptop in Europe?
I have a Dell Inspiron and I have an ATT wireless card. I'm wondering if it's worth the bother of hauling the thing with me to France. The friend I am staying with does not have a computer. I would really just be using my laptop for looking up sights we might want to see and specific information -- also checking my yahoo mail. Will my air card work there? will there be extra charges for the airtime? I have the international feature on my account because I use my phone in europe. Would I be better off just stopping at an internet cafe when I need information?

Answer 1 :
Take it from me.. I travel a lot. Dragging the extra weight around is not fun. Problem 1: You will have to get a power adapter plug and make sure your charger supports 220volts. Problem 2: I dont think your ATT wireless DATA card will work there and if it does expect to be paying heavily for small mb's of data transfer. You phone for voice calls most likely will work if its GSM triband. Problem 3: Airport security are giving hassels with laptops recently. You risk having it taken away for data checking. If they think you might have something illegal on it. They are doing this more frequently now. So leave it at home.. its better.. Do your research before you leave.. and take a few print outs.. that much easier.

Hi.Aren't little brothers a pain? Start with this site http://search.techrepublic.com.com/search/bios+and+ibm+thinkpad+and+password.html and then try http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=IBM+Thinkpad+bypass+password&spell=1 . Good luck!
Answer 2 :
I'm not sure if this will unlock your account but its worth a try. You won't lose any data. Insert the windows Xp install disc and chose repair. Once it finishes you might be able to access your computer again.
Answer 3 :
Safe Mode Bootup ============= Try this, its easy and will not harm anything Slowly tap the F8 key while the computer is powering up Just after the screen goes blank, the F8 key will point the computer to a menu where safe mode can be selected. Note if you mistakenly tap F8 key again, it will continue through to normal boot Scroll and select last known good configuration. This is stronger than doing a system restore in normal mode. See list.. Wait till the boot has finished before clicking anything. (System restore is the first line of restoration. The second line is last good configuration. The third line is system restore in safe mode. The fourth line is repair from your disk recovery console. The fifth line is a delete partition with clean install).
Answer 4 :
Turn on computer and at the same time keep pressing F8 when the menu opens start in safe mode when the computer start every thing will look ugly don't worry click on start , control panel, user icon and create a new user account and set it as administrator re start computer it will open in the new user you set .
Answer 5 :
The solution is to call you uncle for his password. If not, you have to retrieve the administator password by the XP cd then follow this link http://pubs.logicalexpressions.com/pub0009/LPMArticle.asp?ID=305

Wireless internet on a 747 or 777?
okay, so im going on a trip to Egypt, probably a 777 or 747, im gonna take my laptop, but i want to know if there is wireless internet on these aircraft (Most likely Air France). Thank you, Easy 10 pts!

Answer 1 :
777
Answer 2 :
on the 777s, almost with any major airline, in business/executive/first class, you will have internet access not in coach though on 747s, its a bit complicated. the old 747s don't have internet service but newer 747s do. check on your airline's website for info regarding their aircraft. if their 747 do, its probably for first class only too.
Answer 3 :
it would be the 777
Answer 4 :
The 777 (my favorite aircraft).... The 747 in my opinion is an outdated-screaming metal death trap..

Suitcase/backpack for Europe travel, with laptop.?
Suitcase/backpack for Europe travel, with laptop?
I know there are a million threads regarding taking a suitcase or backpack, but my question has a bit of a twist. I will be spending 5 weeks in Europe, 3 in London doing a summer course for which it's crucial that I have my laptop with me. From there I want to travel around Europe for bit (2 weeks approx). I haven't decided where yet, but in the realm of possibilities is Turkey, Greece, Italy, Spain, and France. Obviously, I'd only be picking 1 of these countries to go to. I plan on packing very light as the first 3 weeks I'll be close to laundry facilities. Right now I am leaning to a suitcase and a day pack as I will have my laptop as I'm just not sure that I feel comfortable with my laptop stuffed into a backpack. However, my brain keeps telling me, use a backpack, it'll be so much easier! Has anybody ever done a backpack and brought a laptop? Are their any backpacks that you would recommend? Or should I stick with a smaller suitcase?

Stick with a smaller suiycase with wheels. With a laptop it might get broke if your pack falls off or someone bumps into it.

i'm going somewhere boring with no internet for a long time, my laptop should have...?
this vacation, i'm going to the middle of France. No internet, no tv i understand,... i CAN however take my laptop with me. So i'm planning on downloading something here, put it on my laptop and entertain myself with whatever i downloaded to pass the time. the problem is i don't know what i should download. any ideas? I can download like 40GB or something extra: don't say stuff like 'enjoy France' or anything, i've seen everything there

I would buy/download a digital TV series. You could definitely chew up a good amount of time with that. Also there are plenty of games you could buy or download for free, this would also use up a lot of time. A great game that is cheap is plants vs zombies. Or you could enjoy France. I went to Europe when i was 12 and had a great time.

I brought a laptop for traveling, will it be good enough to play games on?
I brought a laptop for traveling, will it be good enough to play games on?
Hey everyone Normally I either use a Sony Vaio or an apple mac book air. Those are my normal house laptops, although there insured and that I don't really want to take them out the house. But I spend a lot of time outside the house where I need a laptop such as travel ling to see family and Friends and just generally getting away from London. So in this time I need to do something productive or play a game. So As a result I purchased this: http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/uk/en/ho/WF06b/321957-321957-3329742-89318-89318-4149939-4212027.html and I wondered will I be able to play games on it. Also I might just leave it in France when i go to my house there. So i was wondering really a) is it good enough for games? b) is it good enough to be my holiday laptop?

I think it will suffice but it is kind of bottom shelf so don't expect miracles.
Answer 2 :
its not bad just a little low on stats. it would play some games on completely low settings.,
Answer 3 :
Old games... Yes... Newer games, maybe on their lowest settings. The Intel On board Graphics Processor that comes with that chip kinda sucks... The problem is that Most Video Cards consume large amounts of energy and produce even more heat! Some laptops offer better video but they are expensive and playing games means minutes not hours of battery life!
Answer 4 :
movies,music-good enough for games before 2005 eg need for speed most wanted and some post-2005 ( left 4 dead ) they will be played on the lowest setting available.i had a graphic card that was wayyyyy worse (intel GMA x3100) than the one showed for your laptop but i coulld play the two games mentioned above on low settings.

Should I take my laptop with me to Europe.?
Should I take my laptop with me to Europe?
This summer, I am going to be spending two months in Europe. One month will be spent studying at a university in France, and the other month will be spent travelling. I plan to visit the bordering countries of France for 4-5 days a piece and spend my time in hostels. I know that my time as a student I would love to have my laptop for watching DVD's (and workout DVD's so I can workout in my dorm room), talking to my SO, reading and connecting back home via the Internet, and also working part time to make a little extra cash. This all sounds fine and dandy, but I know myself, and I know that when I am in Italy having a nice pasta dinner, I am going to be worried if my laptop is still back at the hostel where I left it. I know the luxury of the internet and a media center at my fingertips would be nice, but I am still having reservations. What do you think? Have you had a similar experience? Thank you for your help!

Answer 3 :
i think that should be up 2 u
Answer 4 :
yes..... but keep it in a save place when you are not using it
Answer 5 :
Unless you plan on carrying it with you everywhere you go plan on losing it. Stuff gets stolen from hostels all the time.
Answer 6 :
hah, why is this on your list of "worries?" yes you should.
Answer 7 :
Buy a secure cable lock that plugs into the back of your Laptop and is then secured around an unmovable object. + most hostels and hotels have some type of valuables safe that you can use for storage. Simply by email check before going. Go Surf & Enjoy
Answer 8 :
yea you will get bord the way there sooo take it trust me its the best choose Hope i help have a greate day
Answer 9 :
yes
Answer 10 :
Why not? I moved to England 5 years or so ago and I always take my laptop with me when I go back to the US. You may be better off using web cafes for internet access but using it for films and stuff will work....the only other option you could consider is a portable DVD player. Very good and a great deal cheaper.
Answer 11 :
Yes, you should have your laptop at your disposal. A security cord works well. Also, I don't know if you rent or own your home. If you do, see if there is a floater that covers your computer while traveling in Europe. (If you are a USAA member their renters policies have this automatically, but you must be in the military or the child of a current member.)

Using laptop for internet overseas?
Using laptop for internet overseas?
I have a laptop that has NOT been set up for wireless internet yet. Can I take it overseas (I live in California, will be traveling to France and Spain) and have access to internet? Is there anything I will need to do to set it up before I leave? Will I be able to access the internet in Europe if I've never accessed the internet here? Guide me! I am very technology-challenged! If the hotels provide wireless access, what will I need to do to access it through my laptop? Do I need to take anything aside from the laptop itself?

Answer 1 :
You shouldn't have any problems connecting wirelessly. The wireless-g/b/draft-n standards are pretty much global. Be aware, you will have to get an adapter to plug in your laptop. They use a different A/C current there. See my source for an example.
Answer 2 :
Well yea before you leave you can go to some place like BestBuy or a local Computer store and see if they can put a wireless cable in your computer. But it might cost a lil bit of money but its probly worth it. And by the way. Before you buy the lil wireless cable thing I would like call the place where you will be staying and than see if they got wireless internet just to make sure that you don't waste your money. Hope I helped! Bye!!

Where could I find a public library in Paris?
I'm looking for a place where I can take my laptop and get free wireless internet and where I can do my work and study in a reasonably calm place in the city of Paris, France.

Answer 1 :
Look in the phone book
Answer 2 :
I'm at work right now so I don't have my "Rough Guides to Paris" book..but they do mention that the libraries usually require a small day pass fee. ?Bibliotheque National de France is on the Quai Francois Mauriac in the 13th? There is also a "woman's study" library located in the south of town in china town by the buddist temple..south of Denfert metro..I forget the name.
Answer 3 :
For starters, a library in France is called a "bibliotheque." "Libraries" in France are bookstores. Free wireless in France? Nothing in France is free. In malls, you have to buy slugs to use for access to restroom stalls. Starbucks MIGHT have wireless.
Answer 4 :
You can get free wireless internet (Wi-Fi) in all municipal libraries See map http://equipement.paris.fr/?tid=235,237

Only answer if you have taken a fully functional processor on an aircraft?
I need to fly to Germany and I require my processor instead of my laptop. My processor is fully functional and when I arrive in Germany I will tie into a monitor. Need to be 100% assured that when I check the processor fully functional installed in a steal case that when Xrayed it will be allowed to pass and loaded into the belly of the aircraft. I have highly classifed medical data on refugees and my own personal patients. Under no circumstance can I arrive in Germany to hear that my processor was removed because a security agent saw all the wires, hdd, cables etc. etc. inside and became freaked out and did not load onboard the belly of the aircraft. After 9/11 security and flying as become a real pain in the you know what!! Minddoctor, Paris, France

Can I Charge My Laptop on a AirFrance/Delta Flight?
i am flying from New York to Moscow with Delta and from Detroit to Paris with Air France and i am wondering if i am going to be able to charge my laptop in anyway on either of those flights. I don't know on which aircraft i am going to be flying on but it you have any number for delta or air france that i can dial and find out it would be greatly appreciated (also make sure its not automated i want to speak to a real person) - I am flying economy -I have a sony viao vgn-fw140e -is there anything i need to buy so i can charge my laptop? -I cant seem to find the answer to my question because i dont know which aircraft i am flying on so again please tell me some numbers that i can call and ask if there is power available and what aircraft im going to be on and all that good stuff -Thank you

Answer 1 :
Unfortunately you will not have access to a power plug unless you were flying in first class. You will just have to find an alternative method of entertainment on your flight. However, both carriers will have in-flight movies to watch to pass the time. As far as your airplane type goes: You'll more than likely be on an 767 or 777 with Delta. And from Paris to Moscow an Airbus A340 or a 777 with Air France. That can be found in your reservation in the details. Also if you have the flight numbers, you can go on www.flightaware.com and type those flight numbers in. The site will display the stats on it's ontime performance and it always lists the type of plane. But on either carrier, and either plane, economy seats do not have A/C power plugs for you to use.
Answer 2 :
From New York to Moscow, you will be on a Boeing 767-300 aircraft, for I know because that is the only type of aircraft Delta operates from New York to Moscow. Unfortunately, you will not be able to charge your laptop on the Delta flight. On the Boeing 767-300, the only outlets are in first-class. Sorry...and for the Air France flight, you will not have power to your laptop in economy. Your aircraft will be a Airbus A330.
Answer 3 :
You do need to know what type of plane and exact model number of the planes you'll be on, check with Delta to find out. Air France doesn't appear to offer in seat power ports on any of their planes in economy or Tempo class. Delta does offer in seat power ports on many of their longer range planes in economy class, but on some planes only in the forward economy sections. If the power port is ac power you will not need any special adapters, if it is dc or empower you will need an adapter. Check this website to see what planes offer power ports, I'm sure Delta can tell you what model plane you will be flying on: http://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Delta_Airlines/Delta_Airlines_Boeing_767-400_Trans.php

If i were in your shoes I would bring my laptop. I'm pretty sure there will be some internet spots in international airports. Not sure about the domestic ones. But either way, I would still bring it just in case. I would keep it tucked away with my clothes when I'm away. Have fun and be safe!
Answer 2 :
Airports, hotels, cafes, restos always have free internet access on WiFi. I am bringing my laptop anywhere I go and I can go online always. Busines and first class may or may not have powerport. Better bring two fully charge batteries. Hotels have safe boxes if you are worried of losing it.

Exchange Student In France!!?
Exchange Student In France!!?
I am VERY interested in going to France for one year as an exchange student. Currently I am 12 - i know that is to young, but I am willing to wait. I have been learning French for almost 5 years now, but I have only just started to LOVE it. I was thinking of either going with : WEP - http://wep.org.au/info/study-abroad-france AFX -http://www.australia-france-exchange.com/index.php/programs-overview/under-18-years-old/one-way-exchange/one-way-year-program/ or EF -http://www.ef-australia.com.au/highschool/destinations/france/exchange-year-in-france/ Has anyone traveled through these agencies? I am prepared for being homesick, my dad said I could get a laptop to Skype my family. Money isn't a issue. I am worried that I will have to repeat a year and leave all of my friends behind. What did you have to do? Thank you so much!! xx

I need help selecting a new laptop?
I need help selecting a new laptop?
This spring break I will be going to France, so that's the main reason I need a laptop. I take and edit a lot of pictures and videos, type a lot of essays (i'm a student), and download a lot of music. Which laptop do you think would be best? http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9371538&type=product&id=1218093382123 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9352773&type=product&id=1218089774244 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9445718&type=product&id=1218105504639 Thank you very much =)

Answer 1 :
The first one (Toshiba Satellite L505-S6946) has the best specs of the 3
Answer 2 :
Here's why you should get a Mac:: There are NO CONS. The MacBook does both WinDoze and OSX, no other computer can make that statement. You have the best of the best. Apple Stores are popping up all over and you can make an appointment for a time and date, bring your computer there for a quick fix. They will troubleshoot it and fix it if it's a software problem for FREE. What other computer company has stores and can make that statement? Get the 2.4 GHz with 4Gigs Ram and you got a speed machine like mine. Go Mac and Never Go Back. Mac, the User Friendly Computer. If you read the questions here you will notice that most problems are about every computer except a Mac.
Answer 3 :
any kind of macbook would work great for you . macbooks come with imovie , imovie is perfect for video editing also macbooks come with a webcam that shoots really high quality videos . to write essays: macbooks come with "pages" and "text edit".
