Do they use a different radio frequency there?

My wi-fi laptop is good, it just doesn't work in France. Do they use a different radio frequency there?
My HP laptop is wi-fi enabled. This is great in England and in Spain. I am unable to use this wi-fi in France. Perhaps the French use a different frequency and maybe I have to buy a new wi-fi card to use while I am there. Perhaps I should buy an 811.n card.Comments would be appreciated.Arthur

Answer 1 :
considering the french have a different way of doing almost everything else, I suppose its possible they have a different frequency for wifi. However its more likely that you are simplyin an area that does not have any useable signals. The format of wifi is universal and the frequency range would be the same whether its in the Americas or not....Siemens did just add a new area to central france but as far as I know, its not everywhere (pretty much like the rest of the world).
Answer 2 :
There may not be any hot spots for internet access in France
Answer 3 :
WiFi should work in France. Please note that 802.11n is just another type of Wifi so it shouldn't make any differance.
Answer 4 :
France uses different steps (or distance between frequencies) in their wifi. To use theirs (if your wireless card supports it) Go to device manager (right click on "My Computer", then click on "Properties", then "Hardware" tab, then "Device Manager" button). Then find your wifi card, right click, hit "Properties", click "advanced" tab, and then there would be an option for what country. Just look at everything in the list and see which one pulls up a Value of : FCC or USA. Once you see that, click it and change it to France. This is for Windows XP, if you have another Windows OS, the steps are simliar.

Hi, Have travelled millions of miles by air since 2000 including many times by Air France, laptops in hand luggage have never been a problem, you have to take it out and put it in seperate plastic tub before it goes through Xray, thats alll. Hope it helps.
Answer 2 :
Nothing changed Dec 25th when it comes to carrying a laptop into the cabin. Same rules as before. Flights to the US have a more strict security check with a second pat down before boarding. Nothing that will affect a flight from the US to Europe, or flights from Europe to any destination (except the US).

I need for a laptop computer in France?

More info on "What type of converter/adaptor plug kit do I need for a laptop computer in France?"?
Hello, I asked this question several weeks ago and received some very wonderful answers. (What type of converter/adaptor plug kit do I need for a laptop computer in France? I'm wanting to bring my laptop on my trip to Paris France and I'm a little confused about the Converter/Adaptor Plug Kit for overseas travel. The ones I see are a 1600 watt converter and says good for small appliances. Will these work for a laptop (it's a gateway tablet laptop) or do I need some thing else, and if I need some thing else where do I find it???) Now, I want to make sure I understand it. The chargers I'm taking with me are Input 110-240V~3A 50/60Hz, 100-240V~50/60Hz 0.2A, and AC 100V-240V 200mA 47-63Hz. So with these all I need is the plug adaptor to use them in Paris, France? If I understood the previous answers correctly I wouldn't need a converter at all? Any help in understanding this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all for your help!!!!!

Answer 1 :
you just need to buy a plug and your adaptor should be able to receive 240V 50/60hz in AC. The main difference is about the voltage. In North America you are using 100-110V and in Europe 240V. and your computer is working with a current of 19V (or something similar). So you don't need any converter
Answer 2 :
for laptops, the power block is your converter. All you need is a plug adapter from the american flat prongs to the european round prongs. they are less than $1 in a convenient store in europe.
Answer 3 :
What's been said - you do not need a convertor, just an adaptor plug.
Answer 4 :
As "Tim" pointed out (and rightly so) the power block (the big black cube) is your transformer. So you do not need a Voltage or Wattage converter. You will need a plug adaptor to use in Paris. Hope this helps, JPJ
