How should i connect my toshiba laptop to internet (wifi)?

How should i connect my toshiba laptop to internet (wifi)?
right now my sisters laptop has gone a bit haywire and now we can't go on the internet anymore i live in france and i cant find out how to connect it because it keeps on saying " sorry but we can't connect you to livebox because a problem occured" so if anyone know how to fix it please help thank you =)

If in France, they may be using other channels for wireless than North America. Depending on your wireless adapter, you may have issues connecting. Most modern wireless adapters should connect to European wireless, but slightly older models may have issues with it... If you can get someone to check the wireless access point (router??), they may be able to verify that the channel is 1 or 6. If they are at channel 12 or 13, you may not be able to connect... If it's not the wireless connection (you can surf the internet ok...), then something in the livebox is detecting your French IP address, and may have issues with it if it thinks you are a North American customer...
