How much is my laptop costing me in electricity roughly?
I've just moved to France for a 9-month placement. I'm being charged a 50 euros a month limit on electricity and anything extra comes out of my deposit. My laptop is a little old and doesn't work without being plugged into the wall (about 10 mins of battery life unplugged). I have it plugged in for roughly 5 hours a day. Any idea what this will be costing me on average?

Answer 1 :
look at the input amperage multiply that by 100 example 2 amp input x 100 = 200 watts usually an hour that is its consumes then check your bill for kilowatt usage price and divide by 100 that is the dollar amount it uses an hour (you need to know how much you are charged for that kilowatt it says somewhere on the bill)

Before you can answer that question accuratly ,you will need to know how much the power company charges per killowatt. that is how we in the US are billled. i guess it is the same in France. you need to find out. where i live i pay about 15 cents. but you might pay more or less cents in France, so i dont know. they use nuclear power so it might be less. then you can use one of the calculators you will find in the links below to estimate your cost. ( # of hours you use it ) x ( watts rating of your comp ) x( cost of elec ) but im just GUESSING your lap top wil cost you $5 US a month if you use it a lot. plus ,if you study the links you learn what other appliances cost to run as well. Then you will be more educated on the subject and know more about it than most people do. Have fun. http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=cost%20to%20run%20appliances
